Inspiron VPN connection problems
I just purchased an Inspiron 6000 with Windows XP. I connect to a VPN Router, Linksys RV042 at my work. For some reason I cannot connect to the router wiht this PC.
I have tried eveything. It seems the only thing I can point the problem to is the some type of security or something installed on the laptop.
It has Mcafee 2005 security. I have disabled it. Turned it off. I even turned it off in the Msconfig startup and restarted the machine without it off. So, that should eliminate that.
In Windows Firewall, I have added it to the good program listed. I completely turned off WF and still not luck.
I even talked with Linksys tech support for an hour and they could not figure it out. They said it had to be something on the laptop. Some type of security setting that is rejecting it.
I have a Dell Desktop PC that is connected through a Linksys Befsr81 router in my house. That is connected to a dsl line.
The desktop has no problem making a connection.
I am using Linksys QuickVPN software to make the connection. I have used the program many times to make a connection in several places, so I know how to use the sw. All my host gateway info is correct as well.
I log onto the QuickVPN log in page with my username and password, then I hit connect. The sw goes through a few stages...connecting, activating policies, and then verifying network should be the last. The connection gets hung up at that stage. About two minutes or so later a message pops up saying the remote gateway is not responding, unable to connect. I must his OK, then it says disconnecting from the server and the screen goes away.
This is where I am lost.....It has to be something on this computer that is blocking access to the site.
Does anyone have any ideas of what I can try to fix this?
Please help.
Thanks
John
