Inspiron 3420, not internet access, TP-Link TL-WR940N

Hello,

I recently moved to a new apartment where a  TP-Link TL-WR940N is working.
I get a really good signal from it, and am able to connect to it but i get "no internet access". In my last place i also had a TP-Link of a different model and it worked fine. My flat mate's laptop doesn't have a probelm, and neither does my phone.

What might be the problem?

Thanks,

Guy

Hi Guy,

Welcome to Dell community!

May I know if you have entered the correct security key for the network? Also, what’s the operating system installed in the laptop?

We can create manual network profile which can help us with the issue. Before we begin, ensure to have the correct Security key for the wireless network. Please follow the below mentioned steps:

  1. Click “Start”, and then click “Control Panel”
  2. Click “Network and Internet”, and then click “Network and Sharing Center”
  3. Click “Manage wireless networks” in the navigation pane
  4. Right-click the network profile listed, and then click “Properties”
  5. Make a note of the settings: Network name, Security type, Encryption type and Security key, and then close the “Properties” window
  6. Right-click the same network profile, and then click “Remove”
  7. Click “Add”, and then click “Manually create a network profile”
  8. Enter the settings that we noted earlier
  9. Ensure to check the boxes for “Start this connection automatically” and “Connect even if the network is not broadcasting”
  10. Click “Next”

If issue persists, please check if the computer has internet access in Safe mode with Networking. Refer the following article for detailed instructions: http://dell.to/17RaVMs

Do let me know the results.

Thanks for the reply

Im running windows 7 and have verified that I have the right key.

I tried setting up the connection manually but it didn't help.

I don't have Internet access in safe mode with networking, though I can connect.

Im not sure I noted it before, but I can connect with  no problems to other networks

Hi Guy,

Since the computer has internet access if you connect it to other networks, there is no issue with the computer. Refer the following link for TL-WR940N user guided: http://bit.ly/15U03gf

Please check if the router settings limit the number of computers to connect to the internet.
