Inspiron 15 Notebook (Inspiron 3521) Tried to tether IPHONE with no luck?

I went out of  town 2 weekends ago. Because the WIFI in motels is poor most of the time I set up my IPHONE for tethering. Once

there I tried connecting with no luck. I could connect to my IPAD both w/wifi and bluetooth. I have 2 ea. Dell & Toshiba laptops.
I called ATT and worked for 2 1/2 hrs to connect to the laptop with no luck at all. The Dell LT was showing 5 bars but I still
could not connect. It has both wifi & bluetooth capabilities but just won't connect to either. Any help I have no problem connecting to wifi at home or in other venues?
I have tried everything I can think of with no success. All of them connect to my home wifi fine.

Sorry I didn't get right back to you. I'm 69 and have a lot going on. I didn't see any response to the systeminfo scan but anyway on Thur. I shut down th McAfee ight firewall for 15 minutes and it connected immediately. last night I finally got it to connect using bluetooth also. I tried same w/the Toshiba with no success I'll try again later. I thank you very much for your time and expertise. I've been working around PC's since I got one from DuPont in 1998. I have learned a great amount since that time. Between  AT&T, APPLE, Microsoft forums over 6 or 7 hours with nothing being successfull. Again I thank you very much.

43petty43,

Let's try the Dell Laptop first.

What virus program and firewall are you using?

McAffee scans daily  plus I run Superantispyware on it 2 or 3 times a week.. 2 laptops a new and old DELL won't connect but they show 5 bars. I can't connect to it's Bluetooth either.

Saturday I temporarily installed a wifi adapter and installed the software and it connected right away. My verizon DSL wifi also readily connects.

43petty43,

Can you run Finding System Information REMOVE YOUR PRODUCT ID and REGISTERED OWNER, if using XP, run an ipconfig /all log and post it back here.

The operating system can be a factor and the wireless adapter. I suspect McAfee may be blocking. Read THIS ARTICLE. It's for a printer, but should get you to the settings to allow communications between the devices.

43petty43,

Uninstall McAfee using the McAfee Removal Tool then restart your computer.

See if you can connect and stay connected. You can always reinstall McAfee.

Try these tweaks....

Windows 8, hit the Windows key and the x keys at the same time, control panel, device manager. Click on Network and then right click on your network adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

Go to the power options, and changed the Wireless Adapter Setting, from Maximum Power Setting to Maximum Performance.

Bob,

Glad you got it working! :emotion-21: Thanks for posting back. Sorry for the delay. I work for a newspaper and it's the busy time of year with advertisements.

If you need further assistance, please post back.

Take care,

Rick
