Help with USB network bridge issue
I figured if anyone has a solution to this issue it would be someone on the Dell forum.
I have four Dell Optiplex 780 Windows 7 Pro machines that each have a Hauppauge cable tuner connected via a USB network bridge. That is, the tuner connects to the computer via a USB cable but it shows up under network as a Media Device "Opencable DLNA". It has it's own IP address but it is not "seen" by the other computers on the network.
The issue I'm having is the tuner will get dropped from the computer from time to time and when that happens it will not record any shows. It takes a full reboot to get it back. Pulling out the power will not get it back. Thought it might be that I was accessing the computers from the network but it happened again last night to one machine after a clean reboot yesterday afternoon.
I'm looking for any potential solutions, things to try, anything that I can do to keep this from happening. I record these shows for my clients and losing a show can cost me business. I need to get this resolved. So far no real help from the manufacturer.
I just now turned off Windows firewall on each of these systems to see it that helps in any way.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Check Windows USB power saving settings.

The issue was that windows firewall was preventing the software from accessing the tuner. It would do a uPNP three times before trying to record a show... not get any response and give up.
Turning off firewall and no more problems.
