Hi!

Try to update your router's firmware and try to call dell's tech support.

hi gaslin,

i can think of two reasons why this may be happening.

1] another computer connected to this network has a 'b', 'g' or 'a' card. this would cause the router to function at the speed supported by the card with the lowest speed. do you have any other laptop or desktops going online wireless with this router? if yes, then what wireless adapter/cards do they have?

or

2] the router has been configured to work in a b&g mode. access the router page and check the wireless settings.

Thanks, Firmware needed to be updated., Router setting set to 270. No connect between router and laptop wirelessly.
Another hour to Dell, WEP and 54MBps and similarly mediocre indoor range. I guess money well wasted

is there confirmation that the draft-N dell card is compatible with the netgear router?

secondly, are you intending to use the higher speeds for local filesharing or just for internet sharing?  if just for the latter, it was definitely money wasted.

Compatibility ok'd by Dell. I intend to use it for file sharing, but was also hoping for better signal around the house because of MIMO - disappointing

I fixed the problem, everyone... At least I am up to 130 Mbps...  Take the following steps:

Open Network Connections
Right Click on Wireless Icon
Click Properties
Click Configure
Click the Advanced Tab
Change your BBS mode to 802.11n mode
Change your IBSS mode to 802.11 a/b/n auto
That should do it...

I also enabled Xpress technology and "Afterburner," but I'm not sure if that did anything... If anyone has any idea what these options do or any other things I might try to get the most speed out of this router, please let me know.

Thanks.

Yep, I'm having the same issues with my Netgear WRN834B and Dell 1505.  The thing doesn't want to go faster than 54Mbps.  I have the latest netgear firmware... I and I know I'm the only one of the network...  The Dell utility recognizes that it can do draft N and it says the speed is 270 as it should, but the connection speed never gets up over 54.  Anyway, let me know if you guys have any new info on this problem.

turkeey, I have a feeling the relevant option was teh BSS mode to 802.11n.  IBSS relates to ad-hoc networking.

I would consider Xpress to be generally 802.11g compatible speed increasers like packet bursting.  Afterburner is an 80211g speed increaser that is propriatary to broadcom and will only work with other afterburner capable equipment.  I'm not sure what effect either of these options has on an 'n' network.
