Ultrasharp 2408: No audio over HDMI using Xbox 360

So I'm not able to get any audio out of my Xbox360 when I connect it to the Dell 2408 Ultrasharp using HDMI. Quite simply: I have a HDMI cable that plugs into my Xbox 360 and then into the Dell HDMI port. I get a clear picture, but no audio.

Any suggestions? Is my monitor faulty? I just got it today :(

Yea, I tried with a pair of speakers and then my headphones - same result each time, no audio. Both of those work fine when connected to my Macbook Pro's audio out.

I've now noticed that DVI-1 does not display anything under both Mac and Windows XP. In both cases, the monitor is detected, but when I attempt to use it as primary/dual screen/clone, it just says no input detected (going to power save).

Have I got a lemon on my hands here :( ?

Im going to have to ask the obvious, do you have speakers attached?

I read somewhere that if you hook up your XBOX and get it running, then turn your monitor off and then back on again, it fixes this problem. I dont know if this is true or not but try it and let me know how you go. Im sure we can work it out eventually.

Also, I dont own an xbox, but is there an option in the console menu to put sound thru HDMI?

In respect to the DVI-1 issue, can you run either your mac or xp through any other component?

Well, I don't know what fixed the DVI-1 issue. I plugged into DVI-2, it worked fine. Unplugged and put it back into DVI-1 and the display started to work. I just hope this isn't an omen for future issues.

I tried the Xbox360 suggestion where I turned off the monitor and then turned it back on after switching on the Xbox360. Still no sound. I'm going to test this out on a different 2408 at my school and get back to you.

welcome to the world of hdcp

sounds like the issues I have had with the "handshake" of hdcp via hdmi

So, my Xbox is fine - tested the analog audio output from the component cables. I have to try hooking up an Xbox at school to a 2408 panel to see if I can get audio out.

I'm not happy with the firmware quirks. I can't see anything on DVI-1 unless I plug into DVI-2 first. This is really annoying. Should I just return this piece and get another from Dell?

Thanks, I'll wait for your reply before I talk to Dell. They really should not bother including features like these if they do not intend to support them fully. I had a cheap television that did HDMI audio perfectly!
