Getting Widescreen Monitor to display in wide screen

I recently purchased a new 22" widescreen monitor to use with my existing desktop system. The monitor is not displaying in full widescreen and there is two black strips at each side of the view. Do I need to install a special driver to get the full view?

You need to tell the computer what the monitor is and have a video card capable of supporting the wide resolution. If the pc thinks you have a narrow monitor, that is what it will display

I ran into the same issue with my 2408WFP until I realized Windows will need the Dell drivers.  Did you get a CD with your monitor?  It should contain drivers.  I would put te CD in your computer and then go to COntrol Panels > Add Hardware  and then let it search for drivers or tell it to look for it in the optical drive.  This should work.

kirtlander,

Go to Display Properties > Settings and change the resolution to 1680x1050. If you are unable to select this resolution you may need to update the video driver.

What is your video adapter?

Display Properties >  Settings > Advanced > Adapter
