E1715S, via USB Type-C to DisplayPort cable

I have a Microsoft Surface Pro 7 tablet PC. I wish to connect an E1715S monitor as an external display. The Pro 7 has one USB Type-C port. and the monitor has a DisplayPort. I purchased a USB Type-C to DisplayPort cable to connect. It does not work. The Surface Pro 7 port specs state that it is "DP alt mode with DisplayPort 1.4 bandwidth (HBR3 + DSC)." The monitor is set for DisplayPort input.

Can someone advise if the monitor is supposed to accept video from a USB TYpe-C port? If not, I guess I'll have to buy another monitor unless someone has another suggestion.

My prior Surface (a Pro 4) had a mini-DisplayPort instead of the USB Type-C. Connecting with a mini-DisplyPort to DisplayPort worked fine.

Tried downloading Dell driver for the E1715S but did not work.

Help!

@Cruiser21  The setup you have should be working. Have you verified that the cable works as expected with another system and/or display just to rule out a defective cable as the issue here? As you say, the Surface Pro 7 definitely supports video output over USB-C, and the display has a DisplayPort input. The display wouldn’t have to formally support a USB-C source since it doesn’t know or care that the signal is coming from a USB-C source rather than a DisplayPort source. A USB-C source can feed a DisplayPort input like the one you’re using, in fact USB-C sends a native DisplayPort signal, so nothing “special” needs to happen there.

Downloading a driver won’t cause your display to start working if it’s not already. They’re used to enable things like special additional functionality, color profiles, or calibration, depending on the exact display model in question.

Since you’ve already confirmed the correct source system capabilities and that you’ve got the display set to its DisplayPort input, my only suggestion would be to test the cable by swapping to a different source system and/or display. If that isn’t feasible, maybe just try buying a different cable? I’ve had good luck with Cable Matters for these sorts of cables, for what it’s worth.

Decided to try a new USB-C to DisplayPort cable from a different manufacturer. Cost nearly twice what the first one did, but e-mailed the company first to receive assurance that it will work. Arriving tomorrow. We'll see...

New cable worked. No further problems with the display.
