Displaylink D3100 now supports Ubuntu 14.04

As I had to search around for the info, I thought I'd post it here for anyone else who's been wanting to run the Dell D3100 4K Docking Station with Ubuntu 14.04 (instead of moving to non-LTS 15.10) on an XPS 13 (I'm using a Haswell 2014 model).

The details are on the DisplayLink site: http://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/615714#ubuntu

You'll have to upgrade to the 3.16 Kernel as mention in the link above.  As a result, note that if you've previously blacklisted the i2c_hid driver (because of some issue with it that I don't remember details of) then you need to un-blacklist it else the touchpad stops working:

$ sudo rm /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist_i2c_hid.conf

Please see the  below link re my 2013 (model 9333) XPS 13 and the D3100 docking station.  I had some cursor flicker which was cured by moving to Ubuntu 15.10 (from 15.04).

Thanks for the reply, you're right, I also have the cursor flicker although only very occasionally (on 14.04).

I'll have to upgrade at some point anyway so that should fix it.
