CPU Core Speed stuck at 0.80GHz Latitude e7440

Hello every one,

I try the core speed of my cpu won't exceed 0.78 Ghz. I've updated the bios to A25 check that's not the issue. Power options in the windows settings are high performance so that's not the issue either.

The core speed is the same when the PC is idle, and when I send it through stress test.

My PC specs

Intec cor i5 4310u

8Go Ram

256 SSD

windows 10

Thank you for helping

Does the system recognize the AC adapter, or does it show "unknown"?  F2 at powerup to check.

Hi All,

My Latitude E7440 has the same issue -> CPU is extremely slow under all activity and Windows Task Manager  shows speed as 0.78Ghz

Change power plan from Balanced to High performance does not help.

Bios A25

Windows 10x64, CPU i7-4600U, RAM 8 Gb, SSD

Dell AC adapter is recognized, 130 watt - I've tried a few AC adapters and dock stations taken from colleges - the same issue :(

Any help ?

I have the same issue with my latitude e7440  core i7 4600u , its stuck at 798mhz clock speed at full throttle, has anyone fixed this issue?

Currently on a23 was going to update to a25 but waiting until i get a new battery as mines dead and i dont trust the power grid. Specs are as follows

Core i7 4600u

8gb ram 1600mhz ( 1 stick )

Windows 10 pro

128gb ssd

My idea was to flash bios to A01, and work up from there all the way to A25, that has fixed some peoples issues, i havent tried it yet but maybe someone here can, and can verify

Your laptop had a voltage problem on the battery.
The system blocked the core at 0,8 mHz for security.
But he never come back to initial.
to solve the problem, remove the battery.
If not result, install Throttlestop and disable the BD PROCHOT setting.

Hey there! It´s been a while since this incident, but it turns out I got a refurbished Dell E7440 recently, same model as the one in the post, and I have the exact same problem. The place where I bought it claims that it is normal on this model to work that way, is that right?

Thanks!

No this is not normal. I am an enterprise user and am reaching out to our rep to find out what is causing this. My guess is faulty batteries since we have had many of those fail. The throttle stop does work but has to be run every time you boot the machine.

I just now drop out the battery and the processor automatically increase from 0.78 to 3.0ghz fck dam.. 1 year suffering for a simple solution Brgds, Flavio

I have a 7440 here with same problem. cpu stuck @0,78GHz. Battery removal does not help. Another battery does not help. Another charger does no help. Downloaded all bioses available, installed them all from A01, nothing happens. Only throttle stop can get it running @Speed again. Havent seen any battery or charger warnings nor errors. Any hope to get it running without throttlestop?

You should try to install the software "Dell Power Manager".

In the "Thermal Management" tab, you need to select option "Optimized".

-----

Your issue might be that you computer is currently locked in the mode "Quiet" or "Cool" which can cause your CPU to be limited at 0.8GHz

Hello!i found the way to fix it,it happens because of putting ur charger on too long.Fix:open your charger then put it when the battery drains to 20%.I tested it in dell vostro 3450 and it worked.Hope I help you.note:put the charger off before boot.

Hello guys. Your assistance would be much appreciated. I have an Alienware R17 i7-4800MQ 2.70 GHz.

I am having the same issue, my CPU performance stucks at 0.78 Ghz. I did follow your advice: unplugged my battery charger and noticed straight away, that CPU increased and I could see the difference in my performance. I also restarted my computer with 16% of the battery life (unplugged). After windows loaded up, I've plugged it back in and CPU still went back to 0.78Ghz.

As a result I now have 0% of battery plugged in, and it's not charging. I did try to unplug, take the battery away and hold power button for 20 seconds. My battery is still not charging. Also I have tried to run Windows without my battery, still same 0.78 Ghz… :(
