I contacted Digital Persona they told me they sold the product to dell and are no longer offering support for it and to call dell. So I called dell and they told me they don't offer support for it either. So what does someone do who is having hardware'software issues for a product and no one wants to offer support.

I tried to upgrade to 5.30. When I did the computer would no longer recognize the reader. Called dell support they changed the mother board and the reader and it still does not work.

WagonFireman,

What operating system is installed on the Studio 1737?

Did you try going to Drivers & Downloads enter your service tag number, then go to security. The Authentec items there is the DigitalPersona Fingerprint software.

Yes, it should work for login and may or may NOT work for certain browsers, since it is no longer supported.

Vista 64bit

Yes I have gone to the drivers and downloads and nothing comes up.

I was finally able to get the system restore to load and was able to revert back to a point in time before this debacle all started. I tried to update again and it will not recognize the reader once updated. So I uninstalled and am working with version 4.(something) . I really don't know what else to try at this point in time. I would like to get the reader updated as I have become spoiled with it.

WagonFireman,

Drivers fro DigitalPersona Fingerprint Reader are...

Authentec AES2810

Please read...

How to by-pass the Dell Download Manager

It should then update to a later version.

WagonFireman,

In device manager, does it show up in the personal identification devices?

In Device manager, any yellow exclaimination marks or red x's? If so, right click on them, uninstall, then restart your computer. When you log in, the new hardware wizard will find them and if the drivers are on your system, it will install them.

WagonFireman,

When I had my Studio 1737, it came with Vista 32-bit. I upgraded it to Vosta 64-bit, then Windows 7 64-bit. I had no problems installing the fingerprint reader.

First, DigitalPersona is not supporting the fingerprint reader software anymore. It may or may not work for different browsers.

I used the Authentec AES2810

(Fingerprint Reader W7 64-bit) to install on my computer. NOT sure if they'll work for you model or not. You might want to try installing them in the Vista (I used Vista SP2) Compatibility mode

If you have the DigitalPersona Software disk, I'm almost certain it will install from that.

The computer is seeing the reader but every time I try to update it the computer will not recognize it. At this point I am thinking I need to look at a different software for the reader.

The computer is running DigitalPersona Software Personal 4.01. It will work on the log on screen for windows and that's it. The update stats:  DigitalPersona Fingerprint Software Version 5.30 update provides better support for Internet Explore 9.0 and Firefox 4.0

That is what I am trying to update to so I can use it with those browsers.

WagonFireman,

I found this information HERE

There is an add-on called Fingerfox SE, latest version is 2.20.2. This
add-on, in conjuction with DigitalPersona personal, will resolve the
problem. In FireFox disable DigitalPersona extension. When you go to a
website with a login screen, once you click the icon on the bottom right
you will get the fingerfox popup. DO NOT ENTER YOUR CREDENTIALS IN THIS
POPUP, instead swipe your finger on the figerprint reader which will
activate the Digital Persona utility. Enter your credentials in Digital
Persona personal and they will be transferred to FingerFox.

When you call them they offer NO help whatsoever and tell you to contact Dell, even though this problem occurs only after installing a "Critical Update" from Digital Persona.  Very frustrating!

I tried fingerfox and it was very slow. I could type a user id and password in twice with the amount of time it took to load and I have limited use of one hand. I unfortunately, like some of the reviews have said it did not work for me.

Thanks Rick,

I have a 1537 studio with 7 pro upgrade and the fingerprint reader quit working. I did what you suggested and everything is running smooth again.

Thanks again thehanna2

PS- I'm also running Firefox 6
