reinstalling a driver
the driver for my usb controller is not working. I have uninstalled it and tried reinstalling it but I get errors that it can not install. The device manager info says that it is not working. I've tried updating the driver, that doesn't work either. I tried system restore, that didn't work. Now what do I do? Thanks.

Try downloading the Chipset drivers located at Dell or at Intel. Also you could try the latest system software download from Dell. Any one of these can often fix USB issues.

Try running a Diagnostics test as well. It could be possible that your USB port may be dead. But try installing the chipset driver (if available) first.
