keyboard problem... please help!

my dog spilled a drink on my m14x keyboard so i replaced it with another. the keys that didnt work previously (enter, space, etc) now all work perfectly fine but now my WASD keys are not working. these are the only keys having issues. is there some driver i need to reinstall or is it the alienware software messing with it somehow? I feel like I am missing something small but am running out of ideas right now.

any help would be appreciated! thanks.

This is normally not a driver problem.Try re-seating the keyboard ribbon cable. It might not have been properly connected to the mainboard. If this doesn't work either the new keyboard is broken or something's wrong with the mainboard(check for any spillages)

You can easily test the keyboard on "DOS"- level by downloading rufus.exe and creating a bootable USBstick.

Boot from the USBstick and try typing the faulty letters on the command prompt. If the letters don't appear you now for sure it's not a Windows problem.

Hi expiredcookiez,

Have you tried checking in a Notepad if the said keys work? Also, we can check the keys functionality in Safe mode with command prompt. To boot the computer in Safe mode with Command Prompt:

  • Restart the computer and tap F8 key at Dell log to enter windows Advanced Boot Options.
  • Select “Safe mode with command prompt” and press enter.

If the keys do not work in Notepad as well as in Safe mode with command prompt, issue would be hardware related.
