base system device missing device in control panel

Control Panel Hardware Devices has 3 unknown items - I cannot find missing Other devices there are 3 devices called Base System Device

I reinstalled windows (fresh XP from cdrom disk) and dell driver disk that came with the computer apparently doesnt have all the drivers on there - video driver would not install either from the drivers disk.  had to find the video driver on the web.  I have video sound, network adapters, wirelan lan, dvd, modem, touchpad, and usb.  Have looked under drivers for support and tried installing most of the inspiron laptop 6400/E1505 none of the drivers solve the missing devices.  The ones I didnt install were for items not on my machine.  I think it may be the built in smart card reader.  Everything seems to work except when you reboot it tries to find the devices.  I can disable the devices but I would rather find the driver for them.

#1 - properties shows - PCI bus 3, device 1, function 3

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

device instance id: PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0592&SUBSYS_01BD1028&REV_0A\4&2FE911E8&0&0BF0

#2 - properties shows- PCI bus 3, device 1, function 2

This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1)

device instance id: PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0843&SUBSYS_01BD1028&REV_01\4&2FE911E8&0&0AF0

#3 - properties shows - PCI bus 3, device 1, function 4

This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1)

device instance id: PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0852&SUBSYS_01BD1028&REV_05\4&2FE911E8&0&0CF0

Yeah I tried reinstalling drivers from the DELL drivers disk.  second time it seemed to solve the problem.  maybe the first time I skipped an item on that disk. .

Apparently not everything on a dell system is plug and play with the latest operating system.   with 7 the drivers on the dell drivers disk may not work.

you may be able to get a list of items from the drivers disk then check the dell site to see if those item have installs for 7.

Do you remember what the device was? i think it is the bluetooth card. Is that what is was on yours for #1 and #2?

thanks

Did you reinstall the driver as per the steps listed HERE?

If not that is possibly the cause of most of your issues. Normally the base system driver is the Ricoh chipset driver . It actually may clear all your errors..

no it does not for some reason. I had to do it on my machine and there are at least seven others that i have helped with this issue.

I am pretty sure Windows 7 installed the drivers automatically for the Ricoh chipset driver. I will double check but I am pretty sure it did, so It has to be something else.

but i already have them installed, don't I? My device manager says I already have the Ricoh xD-Picture card controller and the Ricoh1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller. Should there be more? I still think it is the bluetooth drivers that are missing that are giving me those 2 Base system device errors, but I could be wrong and most likely am.

the first one on that site says that is for a different series of laptops running 64-bit. i am running 32-bit

does this help narrow it down?

this is a screen cap of my device manager. I see a couple things on there that say Ricoh in there, so I would assume Win 7  installed it. I know I didn't. Plus I am not sure if I should check on anything else that should be updated. Dell has nothing on their site because they say the e1505 won;t work with Win 7 , but apparently it does with some work.

thanks,

mike

that listing i sent comes from a site that will break down the PCI vender listing and provide help in locating the correct driver . Why dont you just go ahead and install that Dell driver that it links to and see what happens. There are different parts to the Ricoh drives. some are for the card reader which is what i suspect you are dealing with .

i googled  "PCI\VEN_1180" and it does come back to Ricoh, So i just have to do some more digging into it and find the right drivers.

Hey, a year... later I ran into the same issue.  Once I upgraded my Dell Studio 1785 laptop from the 'stock' Vista to Windows 7 (which Dell does not make provisions for my laptop). I only had one "Base System Device" displayed in Device Manager, along with same other RICOH drivers successfully loaded as your screenshot displays.

I just ran this download to resolve same issue on my laptop- go to: www.dell.com and select menu "For Home">"Technical Support, Drivers & Parts" (at bottom of list).  Then, enter your Service Tag # (on original laptop sticker) and click "Submit". Submit adds your service tag # to the URL such as: www.dell.com/support/troubleshooting/us/en/19/servicetag/[your #]

Then click "Drivers & Download" tab and expand the "Chipset" section to find your RICOH driver(s).  My driver was for the missing: "RICOH R5C83x/84x Flash Media Controller Driver Ver.3.54.05"  Rem: I had same other RICOH drivers loaded as your screenshot displays- this driver was for yet another RICOH element.

Once I ran the driver *.exe file, it automatically processed correctly the previous "Base System Device" into its correct configuration...  Whoopeee!

Regards,
Al Neumann

After installing XP, on my Inspiron 1501(AMD Sempron) I ran into the same problem

Followed your procedure, and after downloading the Ricoh driver indicated, my problem was resoved.

Thank YOU!
