XPS laptop M1530 AAA 6% discount after the fact
I assisted my son who is currently in Boot Camp in Great Lakes Illinois, in purchasing an M1530. Due to Navy regulations, he cant have electronics in his possession until after 6 months of his "A" school.
He wrote me asking me to research a high end gaming machine and I also had suggested that those laptops with a fingerprint log in solution would be in the $2000.00 range. The web site for Dell ( I have personally bought 5 high end systems in the last three years), showed a myriad of possibilities and created some confusion on my part since some of the spec details were upgradeable to.. not included in the "starting price" . I could not understand why a higher end system then the M1530 showed less core speed and less video memory and less of a lot of things for MORE cost.
I called the sales line,shown on the page, to try to get better answers for the decision to be made in the near future. Since DELL has pricing discounts based on particular models and classes that are finite in nature, and I could not reliably and promptly contact my son by mail during this time, I made the impulse decision to buy the computer that fit his every need and want. I DID not offer the fact that I had a AAA discount possibility, nor did I offer the discount coupon code gathered from the AAA /DELL url. After the system was received I realized what I had NOT done and called to resolve the 6 % discount issue. Under Dell's consumer customer service policy, no computer that has been received by the customer can be modified in price. I could however return the item and redo my order through the Dell AAA system.
This is an option of course, I do however think DELL makes out better financially, if they find someone with the authority to decide that the cost of getting a unit back, refurbishing it (wipe the hard drive and start fresh), then selling it at a discount because its refurbished, would cost DELL more then 120.00 dollars that I am asking for.

Note that if you return a non-defective system, you pay shipping both ways, plus a 15% restock charge.

That is kind of what I expected, and why I wanted to avoid the return. Also, being a "green" type I felt it was a terrible policy that a consumer customer service manager would not have authority to make a "non-policy" decision of about 100.00 . AND the fact that it would still cost DELL considerably more to refurbish the unit and sell it at some discount.
Bottom line :smileytongue:
The sales return specialist Luis, credited my son's account by $130.00 in a prompt and friendly fashion.

So if you talk to the right person they'll credit your account? Because I was told the same thing, They won't adjust a price after it's put into production, you have to cancel the order and reorder at the new price. (Which I did, It saved me almost $500 for the same PC)Do you by any chance know Luis's extension? I think Dell should have a price protection for the first 21 days or 30 days like Amazon does.

My guess is any team member will make a logical decision based on facts. In your case if the unit hadn't shipped, it shouldnt be a problem. In my case, it would have been to return a non - defective item and re-order. He chose to credit the account, logically it cost DELL less that way. FYI, having an AAA club membership card allows you to start the sale on the AAA website and save with generated automatic coupon code worth 6% of the total price paid. I have earned 500.00 now on my last two purchases.

I missed the "boat" on this deal. I am a AAA Member and did not know about the 6% discount.
Woe is me! Oh well, there are worse things in life!
My order has already arrived so, I did not benefit from AAA Member/Dell Discount this time.
I am wondering, is there a limit to the number of times you can use this AAA/Dell 6% Discount? Anyone have experience or knowledge about that?

Not sure about coupons, ect, but Dell (US) does have Price Match
Dell does not offer a price protection policy, nor do we match current competitor pricing for similar products.
For US Customers Only - Dell realizes that prices and components change very rapidly in the computer industry. As a courtesy, Dell's US Customer Service Division will issue a credit for any price drop greater than $50 within 30 days from the invoice date.
The amount of the price drop will be refunded back to you according to the original payment method (credit card, payment terms, etc.) within 10-15 business days.
This review must be requested by the customer; it is not generated automatically and is based on a component by component basis.

The only thing that keeps you from using additional discount coupons. is the time that it takes before the system allows another number to be generated. Likely the Dell or AAA department could give you a more precise answer.
and I didn't know about the Military 12 % discount. His system has a 4 year warranty/accident protection and Lojack

Where did you dig this up? Could you post a link to the page? It would have saved me the trouble of canceling my original order to save 40% off my system. Not to mention the additional 4 weeks production and delivery time. This makes total sense to me, but customer service (New Delhi) didn't offer a price adjustment as an option. :smileysad:

I purchased my M1530 with the $599 off + the 12% - which seems to be the max.
Thing is, Dell EPP may be USA Only

Yeah, your probably right, It does say "US Customer Service Division" I guess I'd have to ask the agent in India to transfer me to a US agent. Thanks for that link, I'll print it out, Although I'm happy with my pricing, 40% off was a great deal!
