XPS 13 (L321X, Early 2012) - graphics corruption when running on battery power
I have the following problem with a XPS 13 (L321X, Early 2012), running Windows 7 x64:
Ever so often the display will be corrupted for brief moments. This only happens when the device is running on battery power. The issue does not occur if an external monitor is connected.
Steps taken so far:
- Drivers updated to the latest version available from Dell
- BIOS updated to the latest version
The problem still persists. Any ideas as to how to solve the issue would be greatly appreciated.
Best regards,
Frank Becker

Hi Frank,
Thanks for the post! From what you’re describing (distortion not occurring with an external monitor attached) it sounds like the problem could be with the systems LCD panel / cabling. I would suggest making sure the LCD cabling is well seated and unplug then reconnect the cabling.
You could also check if the problem occurs in the diagnostics / outside of Windows to rule out an operating system or driver issue.
Check out Page 51 of the service manual for instructions on replacing LCD components. For more troubleshooting options I’ve also included the guide below.
