Hi Dmoose,

I will recommend you to uninstall 'USB Root Hubs' from Device Manager and install all the chipset drivers including USB 3.0 driver:

  • Click on 'Start' and right click on 'Computer'.
  • Click on 'Manage' and click on 'Device Manager'.
  • Expand 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers' and right click on each entry by the name of 'USB Root Hubs' and click on 'uninstall'.
  • Once done, restart your system and install the drivers in exactly the same sequence mentioned in the next steps.
  • Install HM67 Intel driver: http://dell.to/SLtDxN (Below are the steps to install a driver).
  • Install 'Intel Management Engine Interface': http://dell.to/R3ofde
  • Install USB 3.0 driver: http://dell.to/Q5Ka1o
  • Install Realtek Card reader driver: http://dell.to/QNygLr

Below are the steps to install a driver:

  1. Click on 'Download File'.
  2. Select 'Single-file Download' and click on 'Continue'.
  3. Click on 'Save' and save the driver on the desktop.
  4. Once saved on desktop, right click on it and click on 'Run as administrator'.
  5. Follow the on screen instructions to install a driver.

Note: Install the above drivers in the same sequence. Once all drivers and installed, restart the system. Check if the USB 3.0 port is working fine.

If the issue still persists, update the BIOS:

Note: Please save any unsaved data. Disconnect all the external peripherals like printer, camera, scanner, external hard drive, flash drive etc. Also, the battery should be charged 10% or above.

  • Click on the below link:
            http://dell.to/R7gCzr

  • Click on 'Download File' and select "For Single File Download via Browser".
  • Click on 'Continue' and click on 'Run'.
  • Update the BIOS following the on screen instructions.
  • Your system will restart automatically.

Keep me posted. Please reply for any further questions.

Now the drive disconnects after few seconds/minutes of use.

For example I played a movie from flash drive and after 6 seconds the drive just disconnected.

In device manager I can see that there is no more Renesans usb 3.0 drivers there..

It always disappears from device manager.

And now when I reinsert my flash drive nothing happens.

Hi Dmoose,

I appreciate your efforts. You can try installing the updated driver from Intel's website for USB 3.0:

Install the driver from the link: http://intel.ly/OQgQza

Click on 'Download'.

Read and accept the terms to start the download.

  • Click on 'Save' and save the driver on the desktop.
  • Right click on the driver and click on 'Run as administrator'.
  • Follow the on screen instructions to install the driver.
  • Restart the system and check if the issue is fixed.

If the issue still persists, I will recommend you to take the system back to its factory settings:

Note: PC restore will lead to data (pictures, documents, programs, music) loss. Please perform a data backup prior to this step. Please disconnect any external peripherals (printer, scanner or any USB device) as well.

 To perform PC restore:-

  1. Restart PC, keep tapping 'F8' as soon as the Dell logo appears.
  2. Advanced Boot Options menu appears, ‘Repair your Computer' is highlighted, press Enter. (Use the arrow keys to highlight your choice).
  3. Windows is loading files screen appears. Wait for it to load.
  4. 'System Recovery Options' prompt appears. Specify the language and keyboard input that you want, and then click ‘Next’.
  5. Log in as a user who has administrative credentials; select the username from the drop-down list, type the password and click OK.
  6. 'Choose a Recovery Tool Window' appears, select 'Dell Data Safe Restore and Emergency Backup'.
  7. The Welcome screen will show 2 options; 'Restore computer and preserve my new or changed files' and 'Select other System Backup and more options'. Select the second option (Select other System Backup and more options) and click 'Next'.
  8. The next window shows these options; 'Backup Files and folders' and 'Restore my computer'. Select ‘Restore my computer’.
  9. Select the 'Factory Image' and click ‘Next’.
  10. The next window shows 2 options; 'Preserve new or changed files before restoring to selected System Backup' and 'Restore without preserving new or changed files'. Select the second option (Restore without preserving new or changed files) and click 'Next'.
  11. A prompt appears stating that your computer is about to be restored all data currently on your computer will be deleted and replaced with your selected Full System Backup. If an Emergency File & Folder Backup was created, it will still be saved in the location you selected. Click 'Yes, continue' and click 'Next'.
  12. PC restore will initiate. Once done, click 'Restart'.
  13. Follow the onscreen instructions to create a user account.

Keep me posted. Please reply for any further questions.

Updated to intel drivers but it still acts the same as before, so no changes here.

After restart I always got the drivers in device manager sometimes I plug the dok and it just connects and disconnects few times or the other option is that it will let me use the dok once, I cacn do whatever I want copy files from it or to it but after I unplug it (using safetly remove) windows wont recongnize it again and a yellow mark appears in devoce manager

on usb mass storage device with this error:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Windows cannot use this hardware device because it has been prepared for "safe removal", but it has not been removed from the computer. (Code 47)

To fix this problem, unplug this device from your computer and then plug it in again.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

unpluging the device and plugin again fixes nothing, restart may fix but than everything start all over again..

My bios is already updated to its latest version, and the laptop was just formatted when I opened this post.

Taking it back to its factory setting is the only thing I didn't try but I need all the data for now so will take some time untill I'll be able to back it all up and try this :\

Hi Dmoose,

How did you format the laptop? Which disk did you use? Did you boot through the disk and delete the partitions?

I have added you as a friend. Please accept my friend request by clicking on my name highlighted in blue and then click on “Friends” tab at the top and then click on “Request to Review” and finally click on “Accept” button.

I am sending you a private message as well. Click on “Inbox” to respond to the message and provide system’s Service Tag and contact details so I may access your system records and check for further course of action. You could also click on Start Conversation to send a private message.

Keep me posted. Please reply in case you have any questions.
