Unable to install video drivers: 15R SE 7520

Hello,

How can I get AMD Mobility Catalyst 13.10 BETA running again? I cannot remember the exact steps I took, but I was able to get this computer to recognize the new AMD drivers and also work along side the Intel HD 4000 Drivers.

I recently purchased this Inspiron 15R SE 7520. When it came out of the box, I updated all of the drivers and software to meet the my needs. I initially used the AMD drivers available on the support website and got the Catalyst Control working well and switchable graphics running. However, during games and other processes that were graphic intensive, as it would switch between the Intel to the AMD, there is a noticeable slowdown and stuttering of graphics and audio output. Also, while running on the AMD, strange flashes of white and distorted graphics would periodically appear on the screen that normally did not happen.

People recommended installing AMD 13.10 Mobility drivers and that fixed the problem. Graphics switched with little incident and the strange flashes and distorted graphics stopped as well.

However, while I was running an update provided by Windows Updater, the computer crashed half way through instillation and for some reason all of my graphical drivers and software (such as Adobe Flash player, Microsoft Silverlight) broke and were unable to run properly. I tried reinstalling my drivers and software, but nothing I did work.

I took the next step to recover my PC from recovery partition hoping it would at least revert me back to factory settings and I could use the same steps before to get AMD 13.10 running again, however nothing seems to work. I can still install the AMD drivers provided by Dell, but I still get all of those negative symptoms stated before. I've tried installing the new Intel HD 4000 drivers from Dell support but every time I do all I get is an error message saying my hardware does not meet the required minimums. Please help me with this as the constant flashes is creating a really negative experience with this laptop.

I appreciate your help, however as I stated in my original posting, I already tried these steps. When I try to install the Intel HD 4000 driver provided on Dell's website I get an error message stating my computer does not meet minimum requirements. After much fiddling, I am finally able to get this running properly on this laptop. Thank you Kuldeep for at least providing the first step I needed to make it work. Here are the steps I used (may not work for others) to get this set up running.

0) **NOTE** I did try to install the AMD Mobility Catalyst 13.10 BETA before deleting the current drivers and reinstalling. I did not make a clean wipe of the AMD drivers, so this may change the outcome if you follow steps 1 and so on.

1) Go to the Device Manager and uninstall and delete the graphics drivers for both the Intel HD and AMD.

2) Run and install AMD Mobility Catalyst 13.10 BETA. I selected Express installation.

3) Restart your computer.

4) Upon restarting my screen showed that AMD Radeon HD 7700M Series (version 13.200.11.0, date 9/4/2013) was installed instead of the usual AMD Radeon HD 7730M (date 8/1/2012). This proves (I hope) that the most current driver is installed.

5) The Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 driver was way out of date, I believe from 5/26/2011 (I did not fully document my steps and I don't want to try to recreate them). Anyway, I simply used the Windows Update to update the Intel HD 4000 driver to its most current version 9.17.10.2849, date 9/2/2012.

I can now open Catalyst Control Center without the error message popping up saying no AMD driver is installed or detected. The error messages from Device Manager are also gone, suggesting that both driver sets are working in tandem now.

I hope this helps anyone else who is having trouble getting the updated drivers work and want to avoid using the Dell provided ones.

Please share the operating system installed.

Also, provide the device ID for the integrated graphics controller. You may follow the instructions mentioned below to get the Device ID or the Hardware ID:

Press ‘Windows’ key + R on ‘Desktop’ screen
Type ‘devmgmt.msc’ in run box and press ‘Enter’
Click > sign next to ‘Display Adapter’ in Device Manager to expand the options.
Right click on the Intel Graphics controller and click ‘Properties’.
Click ‘Details’ and search for ‘Device Instance ID’ or ‘Hardware ID’.
Provide the numbers after VEN and DEV.

I currently have the preinstalled Windows 8 64-bit version. I did not install any other version of Windows on this computer.

As for the device ID of the Intel HD 4000, it is:

For example, Netflix Metro App works after installing the Windows Update, but doesn't after getting Catalyst installed again, from my drivers folder. They seem to be uninstalling each other.

I've had a problem like this since I got my laptop and you still haven't fixed it.

I want to update my Intel graphics driver on my Inspiron 15R. I tried the download on the page for my laptop's drivers and downloads and it says it won't work when I try to install. Windows Update has an Intel graphics update which works, but then it breaks AMD catalyst control centre, and possible the drivers for the 7670m card.

I try reinstalling catalyst using the download on the drivers and downloads page, but after installation and reboot it's still not working. And then it turns out to have uninstalled the updated Inteld HD graphics driver: it's back as a download in Windows Update.

Will you please fix this issue already?

Thank you for providing the information.

I will suggest you to uninstall bot the integrated and discrete graphics driver from the ‘Device Manager’ and then reinstall them from the link below.

To uninstall, expand the options for ‘Display Adapter’ in device manager, right click on each entry and click on ‘Uninstall’.

Once done, reinstall the Intel driver first from the link http://dell.to/15ylHrD and then install the AMD driver from the link http://dell.to/14Ow792.

I'll try that, hopefully that'll work. I was using AMD Drivers from the included drivers disc, and Windows Update for Intel. Like you say, they won't play nice with each other. Thanks.

Some people are saying in that topic that there's still problems with that fix on laptop with dual graphics like my Dell, and it's about Desktops. I will try it though.

Yeah, so I was running into that issue as well. Prior to restarting are you able to get Catalyst up and running?

What I noticed happening was that after I updated to AMD Mobility Catalyst 13.10 BETA and updated the Intel HD 4000 drivers using Windows Update was that after restarting, the computer would revert to the older AMD and Intel drivers.

To fix that, I simply turned off the automatic updates because after I restart, I notice it will always update the AMD driver back to the older version (7730M in my case).

When I try this, the AMD Mobility Catalyst 13.10 BETA driver appears to install, but after reboot does not work properly, catalyst says the driver is not functioning right. Does it work only after updating the Intel drivers? I know AMD says it's up to Dell to provide drivers, their drivers pages say so about laptops with switchable graphics.

I have a Dell Inspirion 15R with a 7670m incidentally, same general problem however.

I have Windows Update stopped from auto-installing, it just downloads and waits for my approval.

I think catalyst disables when it asks to reboot. Do you think I should I install the Intel update through Windows Update, then reboot?
