USB Device not Recognizing. Disconnecting and Re-Connecting

Hi,

I have a continous problem with my Dell D600 laptop. Unusually I've seen this problem pop up before on another Dell of the same model, exactly after about 4 months of the laptop build.
The problem is this....
A message keeps popping up saying the USB device has not been recognized or Windows has not recognized USB device. It keeps disconnected and re-connecting itself. Its beginning to do this erratically at it's own expense!!!
I've been told before that it is a problem with the D600 and its built in Bluetooth card??? and to upgrade the bluetooth drivers from the dell website?
I've tried this but it didn't work, I've also tried disabling the bluetooth, unistalling the usb controller 24CD but no luck.
If more than 3 latitude users have seen this problem before then surely there has to be a permanent fix???
Can anybody please help me with this dilema???? its driving me maaad!!!!!

The mousepointer mouveswith the mouse and within the 10 seconds you can click and drag and whatever but after this it wont activate any action anymore.

I think some processes or maybe a hardware failure... inferior stuff inside the dell,

i dont know any suggestion is wellcom

I have the identical issue on my Dell Latitude D600.  Can't solve.  Did you receive a fix for this issue?

i contacted dell by email as i am travelling in America at present. they wrote back with a number of suggestions. I have tried some of these but they nearly made the problem worse! plus they are asking to plug in or add a bluetooth device of some kind. again i don't any such device as i'm travelling abroad i just carry the bear minimum.

put it this way... its a problem with the internal bluetooth...

I got the same issue. It started after I did run the Bluetooth config wizard.

I started the procedure recommended by Dell, and as I don't need bluetooth for now, I haven't re-installed the Bluetooth software.

After a reboot, I had to re-installed a USB device, the 'New Device Found' wizard did it for me and now my headache is over !

Hi,

I've had this problem myself: sometimes the Bluetooth device on the D600 would work and other times the USB device error message would pop up.

I my case the reason for this was that D600 BT chip had a faulty connection with the motherboard. Apparently certain D600 model/batch has a fragile motherboard connector for the BT chip, and once the connector would get dislocated, the chip would work only randomly. You can check for this by gently pressing the left side of the wrist support or the casing around the left hinge while the computer is on: if the USB error appears, BT chip is not properly connected anymore.

I've seen this happen on several D600s in the company I work in. Onsite warranty fixed this by replacing the motherboard (with a more durable connector, I hope).

Eric, you rock!! I read your post and thought there is "No way" this can be the case.  for the last few days i've had no bluetooth connection and limited USB error messages.  Anyway this morning I did what you suggested, pushed firmly on the left hand side of the wrist support and instantly the bluetooth icon re-appears with connection.  I can't believe this!!!

Dell should recall these units for this issue.  There are no articles on their site that speak to this even thought it's an obvious manufacturer defect which has affected many.

Geez, as i finish this response the BT diconnects from my icon tray.  I push firmly on the left wrist support again...it reappears (Arrgh!!)

Re onsite warranty, did Dell send someone out to swap the motherboard or did they just replace your D600 with a new one?

I've had this problem TWICE.

The unit was purchased at the end of February 2005, and in March, the bluetooth unit began failing it's connection.

I called tell, quoted the article I found on the forums here (http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=latit_general&message.id=40025&query.id=256431) and they replaced my Motherboard.

That all worked fine until this past Saturday (May 7th, 2005), when the problem re-appeared.

Same issue, moving the laptop would make the bluetooth "come back", and pressing "firmly" on the right or left wrist rest would make it come back while maintaining the pressure, it is basically unusable for the bluetooth.

I spent 26 minutes on the phone with support, and we scheduled yet another replacement motherboard, around my busy schedule this week. I explained that this problem seems to be with the D600, and I don't care what they have to do to fix it, but I don't want to be calling Dell every 50 days and having them replace my Motherboard.

The tech on the phone said, "Well, if this problem occurs again, we'll look into giving you a different Laptop."

If it is an engineering issue, then this unit is in fact, "Unfit for use" and I deserve to be provided a fair compensation and replacement unit that is fit for use.

I just hope someone at dell actually reads these forums... I never had these issues with my IBM T40.

This is totally ridiculous!

i've worked with a company who buys in these specific types of "business" laptops, dell d600's.

I have built many whilst working in the IT dept of this company. I've seen this problem on 3 seperate users laptops and 4 including my new one now.

Unfortunatly i'm about 5000 miles away from Dublin where it was purchased so i have to wait till i get back to ring up Dell and sort this issue out.

But as you say.... they'll replace the laptop's motherboard and i'll build it (much to my inconvenience)

and it will happen again 4 months down the line.

THIS HAS TO BE SORTED BY DELL NOW???????????????!!

A web petitíon should be devised or something. i'm with you all on this.
