Studio 15 Studio 1555 CAPS LOCK Notification
There is apparently no way of showing if CAPS LOCK is on or off on my new Dell 1555 (I use the laptop keyboard). This gives real problems entering for example passwords where the text is encrypted.
Is it possible to show if CAPS LOCK is on or off in the Notification Area in the bottom right of the Windows screen (Windows Vista 64 bit) ?
Does anyone have the same laptop but with a CAPS LOCK notification of any sort ?

I have the same Laptop, but also no notification, it's quite irksome! However a colleage of mine has the 17" version and it's got a nice little LED next to the caps lock key... a design flaw or rather "we forgot" in the 15.6" I suppose... and when you look at your laptop layout, there's actually plent of room for a little LED somewhere, not like they ran out of space!

Same problem on my 12 inch mini. The only thing I have found to help is to go to windows control panel, ease of access, keyboard, toggle notification on. You get one beep when you turn it on and a different beep when it turns off.

It is well documented that Dell, for some unknown reason, left HDD activity, WiFi, and num, cap, and scroll lock LED's off the Studio 1555. That is one of the few things I dislike about mine.

Hi , I got the tray Icon to work for the Caps lock key. Find the following exe file, C:\Program Files\Dell\QuickSet\quickset.exe. When it is running I get the notifacation in thr tray area that Caps lock is on. I ended up adding it to the registry under local machine/software/microsoft/windows/current version/run. I added a new string value and just typed in C:\Program Files\Dell\QuickSet\quickset.exe. works all of the time now.

Be interested in more detail on this if possible. If I open the quickset programme, a box opens titled 'Windows Mobility Centre' but no additional notification anywhere if Caps Lock is on or off.
As an aside, I spent probably 4 hours on the phone with Dell Technical Support trying to resolve this as they believed it would be possible to see some form of notification, then they finally gave up and said it was not possible.......
I either use the Tablet PC Input Pad to see if Caps Lock is on or off, or as a previous post indicated, use a sound notification. This is a pain in the proverbials in what is otherwise a good computer. I hope Dell are taking note.....

Hi, once you open quick set ( Windows Mobility Centre) try the caps lock key, you should see the cap lock Icon on the bottom right hand side of your screen in tray area. You do not have to click on anything in the Windows mobility center. If that works then you need to add the registry key I talked about above.
Good luck.

Maybe this will help:
NumCapsScroll Indicator
system tray Caps Lock indicator
NumCapsScroll Indicator is a simple utility that displays the current status of the NumLk, ScrlLk and Caps Lock keys in the system tray, and/or from a floating menu. If, for some reason, you need to have this information visible on your screen than give this tool a try.

Thanks Badslats for the link and to the person who highlighted the toggle Caps log beep on the studio 1555, have just bought a 1555 and although generally seems ok so far was annoyed to find the caps log, disc activity and battery status lights have been left off this model, nothing mentioned on any of the reviews I read so my fault for not seeing a model in the flesh before buying online, still this work around works a treat at least for Caps lock.

Oops spoke to soon! I have now upgraded my 1555 to Win 7but despite setting the numcaplock utilities sound indicator to off once activated it is now causing a constant clicking sound. I guess this is because it sees the Num Lock is set to permanently on on the Studio 1555, mind you this clicking sound did not happen when the laptop was running Vista? Back to the drawing board me thinks!

Seems the problem is triggered by certain sound cards so the software designer has produced a fix for this which you can get at the link below (look in the bottom left hand corner) now works fine again
