Screen turning on and off after opening lid.

This is while logged into windows.  When I close my 600m's laptop lid it pushes that little button down to turn off screen.  When I open the lid again I see my windows desktop, for a second, then screen will turn off (go black), then come back on seconds later to see my desktop again. This can't be normal and it doesn't do it everytime.  I just reinstalled video drivers with dell support on phone last week to fix a screen flash at login screen now I'm having this problem!  Please respond with some answers or if you experienced this too.

If you dont want you screen to turn off when you close the lid all you would have to do is go into your power options, and change the setting so when you close the lid it does nothing but turn the screen off.  Cause what is happening is that it is going into sleep mode.  so if you want to turn that off I did

I already have it to turn screen off.  It is not set to go to sleep.  If it were going into sleep mode it would stay until I pressed a button, this is simply a flash of a black screen when I open my lid after the screen has already shut off.  If i press the little thing that sticks up behind the volume that will shut the screen off, when I release that button it flashes my desktop back up then screen goes black then a second later my desktop will be on as normal.  Thank you, anyone else please respond with your thoughts.

I have the same problem, i think it is a driver issue. It may also be related to external displays but i'm not sure. I just learned to live with it. Now if i could just figure out how to fix this video card frame rate problem.

so you get a black screen after closing and opening your screen also?  It just really annoys me for some reason, and it definetly shouldn't do that especially after I reinstalled drivers.  Maybe I will reinstall again!  Which driver is better to use the resource cd that came with computer or the downloaded video driver off dell site?  I haven't tried gaming on this notebook yet as I just got it last week, I don't wanna even think about the slow framerate issue, no one has come up with a fix for this? Have you called dell support over the phone?

Yeah my screen blinks after opening it up. It didn't do it when i first got it but after i upgraded something either drivers or bios it started. At least with the lateist drivers the resolution doesn't change for a second. You could always try installing omega drivers and playing with them. http://www.omegadrivers.net/ As for the framerate issue it didn't always happen. I think it is a bios/overheating problem. A12/A13 both have the problems. I just went back to A5 but haven't been able to test it much. However Doom3 has crashed twice on me since i put them in but i haven't had the frame rate issue (instead it just dies). I need to find other bios revisions to test out but dell doesn't have them linked or anything. I'm thinking about calling tech support to get them.

I think you are confused. This isn't "Normal" or "Required" what he is describing is after the lid button is released the screen comes on just fine then it turns off for a second and comes back on. This is not normal and here is how i know. I have installed linux on my 600m and programmed the lid events myself and I can make it work just fine without the on/off issue. In fact when I first got my 600m it did this but the first flicker would be in a low resolution (which was very annoying because it rearranged all my shortcuts). I installed the omega drivers and that fixed the low res problem but i still get the double flicker. However, I have had it in the past not turn on/off repeatedly with the lid button but it seems that after I play with the external monitor/s-video out I get the problem again. I think it has something with it tries to reload both screens. Also if you have an external monitor loaded and you close the lid the external monitor will turn off and on again (which shouldn't happen). It is just a matter of bad drivers or configuration of the drivers. I have played with them a tun but never got them to behave as you would expect.

I'm wishing I could have gotten an Nvidia card with my laptop, I would have had a lot less issues (especially with linux). ATI may be faster but Nvidia has much better drivers and driver support.

Well I fixed that problem.  But of course now I have another.  I fixed it by reinstalling the drivers for the 3rd time.  Now when I open the lid after closing the screen comes on normally but I get a  "Powerplay Warning" message saying that powerplay has been requested and the current display settings cannot activate power saving mode.  How do I get my settings to "allow power saving mode?"  I tired reducing my color depth from 32bit to 16 bit but that did not work... My current resolution is set to 1024 x 769.  Please help me with this power play issue as I want maximum battery life.

make sure you don't have any external displays on, make sure there are no dvds running, and i'm sure there are other things that can cause it not to work. When that warning msg comes up it has a help spot that tells you what might be causeing it.

Reinstalling drivers a 3rd time has fixed the problem, now my touchpad stops responding to my finger movements occasionally, oh boy!
