PXE Boot Latitude 7275

We have a test Latitude 7275 which came with a dock and connecting USB C cable. We've been assured by Dell that we can PXE boot from these devices. However there seems to be no way to enable PXE boot in the BIOS.

Can anyone tell me how to set this up?

For PXE booting, as stated by others, you will need the POST>Fastboot setting set to Thorough. In addition, you will also need to enable Thunderbolt Boot Support:

System Configuration  >  USB/Thunderbolt Configuration  >  Enable Thunderbolt Boot Support

If not checked, you will not be able to boot to any Thunderbolt device (such as the WD15 dock)

If you would like to UEFI PXE boot, which allows you to keep secure boot, it's a multi-step process that requires the first couple of steps to be done in order.

In BIOS Setup:

1.  POST Behavior  >  Fastboot  >  Thorough

This allows the system to detect the device being used for PXE.

2.  General  >  Advanced Boot Options  >  Enable UEFI Network Stack

     Enables network booting with UEFI.

3.  System Configuration  >  USB/Thunderbolt Configuration  >  Enable Thunderbolt Boot Support

Regardless of step two, in order to PXE boot from the WD15 or any other Thunderbolt device with ethernet, this will need to be checked. I noticed on a couple devices (but not all) that enabling UEFI network in step 2 actually unchecked this setting. which is why I would suggest doing this in order.

I also recently received a Dell Latitude 12 7275, and booting to the NIC is not an option in the BIOS.  I also bought the WD15 dock to image with.  This dock is supposed to be compatible with the 7275, but it isn't.  There seems to be no way to PXE boot the 7275.

Please help.

I also had the issue of being unable to PXE boot a 7275. It also would not recognise a bootable USB drive, or even a USB mouse. Everything worked normally when booted into Windows!
Having spoken to Dell Support on this issue, have finally managed to PXE boot. It would appear that you need to change in the BIOS, under POST Behaviour, Fastboot, the option from Minimal (Default) to Thorough. This then allows the system to see all devices attached to it in BIOS (Ethernet Adapter to PXE boot, USB drive, etc). Strange that this option is also available on the most recent Latitude E series laptops, but the setting is left on minimal and those systems can detect all devices perfectly.

Hello all,

I also have this issue.

just received the latitude 7275 with D3100 docking, but no chance to have the pxe option appear. I already put the thorough option in the BIOS and deactivate secure boot, but nothing work.

any idea?

thanks

What adapter did you use?  What was the Dell Part# ?  Did you use the WD15 dock or just a USB C to Ethernet?

Mine turned out to be related to a POE connection.  My drop was bad, went to one powered over Ethernet and it worked immediately.

Hello,

I had the same problem. Our company uses PXE for the OS installation.

BIOS Setup > POST Behavior > Thorough

Reboot the device, then you should be able to see the USB-NIC

Step 3. was the one that worked for me. Strange part is that i could´nt even boot from a USB key connected with the USB-C cable (not from the dock) until i checked "enable thunderbolt Boot Support.

Many thanks!
