PC Card slot

Inspiron 5150

Hi,

As I don't have a PC Card the PC Card slot is still open. I would like to ask, if it is possible to close that slot - to buy some plug in. Or should it be closed when I've  received it? It is just 1 day old ;-)

Thank you.

The system should have shipped with a small plastic insert that goes into the PCMCIA slot when there is no card in there.... in order to cover that gap. If it is not actually in there then have a look in all the packaging the system shipped in and see if you can find it.

It's not recommended to put the slot blanks in there, because it could interfere with the laptop's cooling.

Its never interfered with the cooling of my i8200, or i8500, or i8600........

I've talked with some people saying that keeping the blanks out of their Inspiron 8000/8100/8200s made their laptop cooler by about 5-10 degrees Fahrenheit...but it's my preference anyway.

FWIW, I didn't receive a dummy PC Card with my 5150 either.  Note that the HD is located directly above the PC Card slot and with no card installed, my HD temp doesn't exceed 40C.

I dont think the 5150 ships with an insert mine didn't when I bought it last summer, and my friends didn't when he got it last week. I also think its because of cooling and the location of the hard drive.   Joe

Kewl, it might only be the i8XXX series that ships with the dummy card...
