Need to get Charging Port/Board Replaced - What options do I have?
My daughters have an Inspiron 1545 and a part broke off. I believe the part is called the Charging Port or Charging Board. It is a small black plastic part (no larger than a pen cap) that the adapter is plugged into. It came off before and I was able it slide it back on, over the silver prongs. I was under the impression that it snapped back into place because it stayed on, until the laptop fell, then it came off and a part of the plastic broke. I put the piece back on, but it comes off easily, so I used tape to hold the adapter plug and charging port plugged in.
I was told the part is integrated with the Motherboard and that I may have to replace the Motherboard. Are there any other options? I was under the impression that if I received a replacement part, that I could snap it on. Does anyone have any other solutions or suggestions of how this could be fixed, inexpensively?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have.

Welcome to the Community. Well you were told correct, that is an integrated part on the motherboard, hence you will need to replace the entire motherboard. Contact Dell's Out of Warranty dept in your region, I am sure they should work out something for you.

There is a less expensive solution. Shops that can do true repairs - NOT just swap parts, Geek Squad-style - can replace the jack, and the cost should run $100 or so - about 1/4-1/3 the cost of a board replacement. On this model, the jack doesn't just snap on - it requires through-hole soldering, which is difficult work best left to a professional.

Replacing the motherboard is NOT the best solution. It will be too expensive. You've got to replace the Dell power jack. It involves disassembling the laptop completely, desoldering the broken jack, soldering on a replacement jack. This requires professional work. Contact a Dell Service center and tell them this. You should be charged at least $50 to $ 80.

I would suggest you NEVER buy a Dell again, I have 4 HP laptops and I (stupidly) decided to buy a Dell for my son because it was only $398, I bought his laptop in August and in February his port wouldn't charge so he brought it to the help desk at NC State that said it was under warranty, they sent it to Dell who sent it right back saying it was not under the warranty, the computer has never been dropped nor did he ever "jam" anything into the port but it is considered "accidental" damage......and it will cost you $269 to get it fixed......I won't give Dell another dime, they are terrible customer service and shouldn't be in business....good news you can sell the laptop on ebay for parts apparently everyone needs some Dell parts for their messed up, cheaply made "computers" .........I guess you get what you pay for....

You can buy the port on Amazon or ebay by searching "Dell (model number) in power jack or inlet jack" example "Dell 15 5559 inlet jack. Costs about $10. Dell is a fix broke with broke company, I've learned that the hard way. will never buy Dell again

I will also never buy a Dell again.Inlet jack broke after 7 months. Dell says it isn't covered under warranty because it was not a mechanical part (what?). Bad customer service (hard to understand) and immediately tried to upsell me to repair. The warranty is useless. I will take the computer to my local computer shop. Unfortunately, Costco's concierge service is also useless and the warranty only mirrors Dell.

Dell deemed it accidental damage - so would Apple, HP, Lenovo, ASUS, Acer, and every other notebook manufacturer -- so, while you're free to choose other than Dell with your next system, the result would be identical.
No manufacturer will cover accidental damage under warranty.
