My fan starts off fine but then starts making a fluttering/sputtering noise... is it broken?

... or is it clogged?

When I turn the computer on it works fine.  When I did a fan diagnostic (when I was able to w/out the computer over-heating and shutting off) it was fine.  However, when I'm using the computer it will start again and then it begins making this noise like it's not working properly... like a fluttering/sputtering sound.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Probably dust filled.  There are a few threads on this problem.

Sounds like I have the same prob. Laptop works fine for the first half hour then the fan goes into this continuous stop-start motion. Just sounds like its really sick and about to croak any minute. Very concerned its not doing the insides any favours. What the uck is up with it. Rang Dell support but they were not too concerned about it as the system was not closing down automatically if it was overheating.

gexto... get some compressed air and shoot it in the fan vents.  that fixed the problem for me... the fan is working fine again

(hope this helps)

In the end I went the hard way around it (no i didn't go back to dell support!), I opened it up, went and took the fan out and opened it up................wow wow wow, all that dust, I would never have imagined. Only air I had was that in my lungs. A few hard blows and when I came to and picked myself off the floor well hey what the uck, it was nice and clean. Laptop back together and working good.

Thanks for the dust tips everyone. Must get a cleaner in around here.
