My Laptop freezes when booting

When i turn on the computer i can get it to the loading windows screen but then it freezes and the same happens when i put it into safe mode or system restore. I tried calling tech support but they basically told me to [Admin Note: Post edited per TOU policy - LL] myself because i wasn't gonna hand over 129 dollars for them to do it when i can't afford it.

Kpick3, can you please give the helpers here some information about your model laptop and your operating system?  Have you had any other symptoms of a malfunction prior to this? What type of security do you have installed, and when was the last scan run?

I'll wait the laptop specialists to review this. If they feel that this is a malware problem they can let me know.
Make sure you have your Windows installation disks, and backups of your documents, pictures, etc. handy.

If no one else replies to this, you might consider posting at SpywareHammer in the General Computer Issues Forum where a trained analyst can walk you through some diagnostics and other options. If they feel that malware is causing this, they will move your post to the appropriate forum. Help is free, but you will need to register as you did here.

Good luck!

Dell does not provide the disks when you purchase a system. That is because Dell provided two backup and recovery software products for you to backup and restore your computer's data to a disk or USB memory key at your discretion. If your computer is in working condition, it can be restored to the factory image from the hard drive or in some cases the Disk or USB Memory Key you have made using this software. If you did not do that, you can order operating system backup disks and can download the drivers and diagnostics for free online at support.dell.com/. There are self-help guides online here that can guide you through the OS installation process including driver installation and the order that drivers should be installed.
You can request replacement disks here (if you are in the US):
https://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dellcare/en/backupcd_form?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&redirect=1
Not all countries have this as an option. If you are not in the US, tell us what country you are in.

I understand your frustration, but I am a volunteer and have no control over who helps on this forum. If the laptop team has not replied, I recommend that you take my suggestion and get help at SpywareHammer.

Have you tried last good known configuration?

Power it down by holding the power button down for 10 seconds. When powering up tap F8 repeatedly.

The advanced boot options should display.

Select Last Known Good Configuration. See if that works. This fixes such problems quite often.

If that doesn't work power down the computer and press F12 while booting up. Select diagnostics, run these and any extended tests to see if any point to a bad hard drive.

If the tests pass the next step to try would be reinstallation. You have 2 choices here, one would be the factory settings, the second would be to install via DVD or USB. I prefer the second choice.

As you don't have the reinstallation DVD and reside in the US you will have to fill in the form mentioned by Bugbatter or alternatively use retail media and phone activation. Retail Media for WIndows Vista or Windows 7 can be downloaded here. Follow my wiki A Clean Install of Windows 7 for best results. To avoid all loss of data don't use the DBAN or format the drive and recover your files from the Windows.old folder.

The factory settings can be selected by selecting repair your computer in the above image.

Select the Dell Datasafe and Factory Restore. Follow the on screen instructions. Likely all data will be lost with the factory settings.

If you need to back up data, remove the hard drive, mount it in an external case, and attach it to a working system.  Then proceed with the factory recovery (under Repair in the boot menu).

If that doesn't work, you'll need to order the Windows disc and do a manual install:

Thanks for letting us know. I'd like to review the diagnostics that they had you run. Please post a link to your topic there. Thanks.

kpick3, an observation:  On July 1o, Bugbatter suggested you try posting in the General Computer Issues forum at SpywareHammer.  She followed up on that suggestion on July 14.  Today, you posted that "SpywareHammer didnt help at all."

You registered at SpywareHammer on July 10, but you have not made any posts at all.  Most of the time, questions asked at SpywareHammer receive responses very quickly, often within a matter of minutes.  I am not sure how you expected any help from simply registering and not posting.  Staff at SpywareHammer are knowledgeable and eager to help.  But we can't help if you don't ask.

In your anger you apparently overlooked SpywareHammer's NEW TOPIC button at the top of the forum.

It appears that you have this sorted out, so this topic is closed.
