Monitor-Shows Analog detect and won't stay on

I have two identical Dell monitors. When I plug one into my laptop it goes to sleep. (Just shows analog detect for a 2 seconds and then the monitor goes blank/black.  I assume it is something with the monitor since the other works fine.  Is there a quick fix or will I need to buy a new monitor?

Hi KAber,

The Input source on your monitor is set to VGA input. Depending upon the monitor please set the Input source to Auto detect this should fix the issue. If you are unable to set it up, please let me know the monitor model no. and the laptop interface you are connecting (example: VGA, HDMI or DP port)

For others having this issue I recvd a reply stating:

I was able to change the setting on the monitor to auto detect  (one thing I found is that if I unhook and hook up the monitor a number of times I can get it to stay on) Once I got it to stay on, I was able to change the input source for my monitor to Auto detect  (adjustment needs to be made on the monitor)(It was set to VGA input as indicated in the response).  I checked my other monitor and it was set to Auto detect already.  I am hoping this resolves the issue. I just made the change so too early to tell But I am hopeful.

I tried again and had the same result.  I have two identical monitors.  When I switch monitors from my lap top and desk top I have the same issue.  I cant keep my one monitor from showing 1 auto detect(analog) and then going to sleep.  The other monitor works fine but cant make this one stay awake.

I would suggest you to reinstall the video card driver on the laptop. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, select the OS, then download the Video card drivers listed from Video section onto the system and install it.

Also, I would like to know after connecting the system to external monitor are you pressing the windows key + P to check if you are able to see the display from the laptop.

Please let me know if this helps.

I think the issue is with my monitor.  I have two identical monitors and switched them.  The issue followed the monitor when I moved it to my desktop. When I hooked the 'good'  monitor to my laptop it now seems to work fine.  So it really appears to be an issue with the monitor.  I reset the factor settings and am still having the issue.  It there a way to turn off the screen saver mode so that it always stays on and does not go into sleep mode?

Any ideas since this really seems to be an issue with the monitor since when I moved the monitor from my laptop to my desktop I continued to experience the same issue.
