MS Windows XP Home Crashes w/ HP PSC 1210 All-In-One Printer
Hello Forum Members,
HP PSC 1210 printer was bought and installed [on laptop Inspiron 5100] 4 days ago, and installation indication was successful. Am using one USB port on back of laptop for printer, and one for mouse. I tested scanning, copying & printing successfully.
The yellow triangle sign with exclamation mark in it [over printer icon] has been showing in lower RH corner of my screen. I have tried power cycling the hp 1210 to get rid of it and/or reset the printer.
Yesterday, I had two identical critical crashes with XP, with the error message Bugcode-USB-driver was displayed. There have been no critical crashes on this laptop before.
I have received a reply from HP support indicating how to properly reset/power cycle the 1210, and the stated procedure not not enable the 1210 to work. Hp also mentionned that a USB hub may be required due to "Dell recommends the purchase of a powered USB hub to provide the USB devices with enough power to operate correctly if any device discovery or communications problems exist."
Any suggestions much appreciated. Thank you,
Bob

I'm only guessing here as I don't have your All-In-One but are you sure the exclaimation marks in systray aren't related to low ink levels?
also make sure that your usb port isn't enabled to power off as a power saving option.
device manager>usb controllers>usb root hub>properties>power management

Hi,
Do you have a definitive answer on the hp 1210printer crashes? I keep getting disconnect messages . I 've re-installed the software, etc nothing works...It seems I'm not alone with this problem..the hp tech was no help, he had no idea what was up...this is a good printer when it works. Do I need a hub? the printer is directly plugged into my computer now.
I have a new compaq, 520 mb, 2 g, xp home, athlon 2400
thanx

Hello Forum Members,
In total I ended up having 4 critical crashes to my Inspiron 5100: dell tech support went beyond the call of duty to help me this. [3 crashes were resolved by restarting the computer; 1 required a partial disassemly of the Inspiron.]
I returned the hp 1210 printer after 11 days, and about 15+ hrs on this problem.
I have purchased a Dell A920, and have yet to install it.
Regards, Bob

Hello,
The Dell A920 installed in 15 minutes, and has been working fine for a week or so.

I am using a HP 5510 all in one and the software requires a critical update for anyone using Digital Imaging software (hp memories disc creator software). This may be of value if this software is part of your package.
...afterthought, there is a microsoft update KB822603 that deals with USB 1.1 and USB 2 update. If you don't have it, it may be part of the problem.

Glad it helped. BTW, if you are going to be using hp software you might want to read this page concerning a critical patch for certain hp "stuff".

I woke up this morning to find my computer disconnected ,ARRGGGgGGGGg.I now believe it's an hardware issue, an internal usb problem, possibly extremely low quality hardware in my computer, who knows.
I don't think a new printer, powered hub, cable, qwik fix hp ,MS, download will help.I've noticed on the web this prob. is big and frustrating many.As you can see I have a compaq and i'm on a dell forum site(among others) i.e. desperate. GH

After more than week ,have you had any crashes? I'm trying to keep my printer( I like the copy feature),hp 1210,and have done all the prescribed fixes , but it still will crash after a few days.I see people with other printers have the same problem.

Just a thought, check to make sure there is nothing interfering with the Spooler Subsystem Application. If any firewall configuration is blocking SPOOLVS exe it can mess with the equipment communication.
