Line-In won't detect microphone audio?
I recently got a new headset, Razer Kraken Pro, and the line in won't detect my microphone, which I need because I use Skype. I checked and it has the audio turned up all the way, and I know for sure that the jacks are correct. What do I do to fix this? I am on Windows 7, if it helps.
And also - I can hear audio, the mic just won't pick up. And I know it is not a defective product because I have had this problem with previous headsets in the past.

Hello. Your laptop is an Alienware M14x? Have you tried re-installing the Realtek audio driver?
Re-installing the audio driver will restore the default audio settings. On many models the default is for line-in (mic boost off) so you might have to re-select for mic and set the mic boost levels.
I would check the settings both on the Recording tab of the Sound properties (right click on audio icon and click Recording devices, right click on the mic and set as the default device, right click on the mic, then properties, then the Levels tab to set boost) and also the microphone tab of the Realtek Audio Manager. I would test the mic using Windows Sound Recorder instead of Skype.

Sorry about that. Dell's Alienware M14x manual says that it has Realtek, and the M14x R2 manual says it has the SoundBlaster.

Yes I do have the Alienware M14x, and thank you. What you told me to do didn't actually work , but the idea did. My computer does not use the Realtek audio, instead I have the Sound Blaster Recon 3Di, and I just updated that driver, and boom, now it works. Thank you :)

When I right click on the audio button then select recording devices, only my internal microphone shows up even though I have an external microphone plugged in. Can you please tell me how to get the computer to recognize the microphone? I'm on Windows 8.1, and this is a Dell Inspiron 15, 5000 series.
Thank you!

Dianne, did you ever figure out this problem? I am having the same problem. It worked last week and now my Dell doesn't recognize my headphones or mic.
