Internet not working via wireless/cable

Hello,

to start with, i'm writing this on my friend's laptop because mine doesn't want to connect to the internet anymore.

To discribe my problem:

I have a DELL studio XPS 16 laptop with windows 7.

I haven't done any changes to my laptop but from one day to another, the internet stopped working eventhough the router is connected to the internet . I've checked this with 2 different routers, i could on both connect me to the internet with other laptops/pcs but not with mine. So i guess there must be something wrong on mine. I did restart the router and my laptop, i also tried to reset my router without any result.

After 5 hours of reading myself through forums, i give up and you are my last hope....

If you answer this post, try to explain everything in detail because i do have some knowledge about all this but as you see, it's not enough to solve this issue.

Thanks in advance,

Paul

Hi,

To get to Safe Mode, turn off computer, as soon as you turn on the computer, start tapping the F8 key, this should bring up the safe mode option, select Safe Mode with networking.

Check the below links for help.

service.mcafee.com/faqdocument.aspx

If this does not work, try uninstalling McAfee and see if that works.

Thank you.

I'm using McAfee as Antivirus software, i've read a post in here with that software causing some problems connecting to internet but i can't do the steps they want me to do (since i can't connect to the internet to update/reinstall McAfee)

Pressing the F8 key at the dell logo doesn't do anything.

Hi,

Welcome to the Community. Which Antivirus software are you using? Press the F8 key at the Dell Logo, select Safe Mode with Networking and try connecting to the internet. If its able to connect, then Open McAfee and do a update.

Let me know if that helped.

Thank you.

Hey,

i've tried the F8 thing but doesn't work, i only have the option F2 -> Setup or F12-> Boot menu.

I also tried the first 2 steps for McAfee, and i'm about to try the last one, which is uninstalling McAfee, i'll send another message after finished the last step.

I've followed the link step by step ("Workaround 3") and it finally works again! I apology for asking my question in here, but i really thought it was a problem related to DELL and not to McAfee.

Thanks a lot, eventhough it's a problem with McAfee, you gave me the right link and solved it.
