Inspiron 5150 - ATI 7500 Video Driver Will Not Install
I have a Inspiron 5150 and the video card (GeForce FX Go5200 64mb) went out but I didn't know for sure if it was the screen or the card so I bought a cheaper video card (ATI 7500 32mb) just to see for sure and they (seller on Ebay) said it came out of a 5150 and works great. I installed the card and It does work but I can't seem to load the driver for it. I tried the one from the Dell website and the one from ATI but every time I try to install it I get an error saying "INF error. Video driver not found". Then when I click OK is says "Setup was unable to complete the installation. Try to setup your display adaptor with a standard VGA driver before running setup".
Under the driver tab for the card it says "Video controller (VGA compatible)".
Does anyone know if this card works with the 5150 and is there a special driver I need?
Thanks to anyone who can help me.

Thanks. Tried that and it said it edited some INF files and then asked if I would like to install the drivers now and I said yes but I still got the exact same errors. I even tried to update the driver and told it where the driver was but it said it couldn't find it.
Any other ideas?

That link goes to the GeForce 5200. The ATI 7500 is not under the 5150 video drivers. I tried this one:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/type.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&SystemID=INS_PNT_P4_5100&os=WW1&osl=en&deviceid=2552
It is under the Inspiron 5100. I tried the driver on the dell disk that came with my laptop. It too does not have a ATI 7500 listed for the 5150 so I used the one under the 5100 but it says it's not configured for my laptop and it might not work correctly. Either way I still get the same error.
This is a fresh install on Windows XP and I updated to SP2 and have all the other updates too.

Yes I used the mod file and it said it edited some INF files but I still get the error. If this card came with the 5150 wouldn't if be a slam dunk to install the driver? Makes no sence that I would have to even use a mod file.
Does anyone know if this card did indeed come with the 5150? I was told it came out of a 5150 but you never know.

No, I did not try safe mode. I will when I get home from work.
Thanks for all your help.
