Inspiron 1545 cpu compatibility and memory with latest BIOS?
I have a 1545 laptop that I want to get a little more life out of. It currently has the Celeron 900 2.2GHz single core processor.
If I update to the latest BIOS,
- What specific Intel cpus are supported by the BIOS, specifically Core2 Duo on the higher end of clock and cache (or what is excluded?) T? P?
- Is the max memory hardware limited to 4GB, or is there a BIOS update to extend this range?
Thanks,
Ken

Any of the mobile Core 2 CPUs except the Extreme Edition units should work fine.
According to Crucial, the system will take up to 2X4 = 8G of memory (of course, to use more than 4G, you must have a 64-bit operating system).

800 or 1066 MHz will work.
Anything but the Extreme Edition units will work.

But does the bus speed have to be 800MHz like the old Celeron being removed, or can the 1066MHz FSB units work?
Since the Celeron was fairly inefficient at 35W, am I ok, thermally, with any processor, so long as it has a lower TDP?
