How do I know when laptop is fully charged when powered off? INSPIRON 14Z
I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 14z. I would like to know how I am supposed to tell when my laptop is fully charged when it is powered off, does anyone know? There is a light on the charger as well as on the laptop. I had it plugged in over an hour turned it on and still wasn't fully charged. I really don't want to damage my battery or charger so I would really appreciate any help.
Thanks!

Hi barr1394,
Welcome to the community
There is no indication as such to show that the battery is completely charged when the system is shutdown, however the power source would be cut off power from the charger even if it is still connected to the laptop after 100% charge so that the battery is not over-charged. We can assure you that there won't be any damage to your laptop or battery even though it is connected to the laptop all the time.
Thanks & Regards

take the battery out and press the charge button....5 led's is a full charge...my dell d610 is so equipped and yours might be...otherwise, charge until full and then unplug and also set your power settings to save as much juice as it can...this really helps

Dell_Harish_R:
I purchased a Dell Inspiron N5010 back in 2011. I was assured that my battery would not be damaged if I left it plugged in to my charger most of the time. About a year later, I took my laptop into BestBuy for some diagnostics, as my battery only lasted for the better part of an hour. They told me that it was due to my leaving it plugged in 24/7. I bought a new battery not too long ago from UBatteries, and I am extremely satisfied. What I am not satisfied with, however, was that I was lied to about my battery being fine if it were to remain plugged in. It will be a long time before I buy another Dell product, as if Dell lies to me about my battery, I want nothing to do with them. Whoever reads this: PLEASE, do NOT plug in your laptop 24/7. Plug it in to charge and then take it out. Drain your battery to 20% to get a full charge cycle out of it, as batteries only have about 350 charge cycles. Learn from my mistakes, and should you have any trouble, the Geek Squad at BestBuy is really good.
