Help with BIOS Driver Update Dell Inspiron 1440
Hi all,
I bought a Dell Inspiron 1440 from Best Buy about a week ago, and in the box Dell had a sheet of paper that read "Important Information: Before Using Your Computer" and it talked about 2 things to do before using, one was about charging the battery and the other one was "Update to the latest computer BIOS and drivers."
I updated the BIOS and now am VERY NERVOUS because I read online how bad it is for your computer and you shouldn't do it unless there are system issues. Have I ruined anything? It's working fine but it was working fine before. Also, there are 38 drivers on the page and I can't figure out which ones need to be updated, especially when there are 3 different ones in the Chipset, etc. Help!
Any assistance is GREATLY welcomed, I'm very nervous here! :emotion-42:
Thank you!

You need to find the disc that came with your pc. It should say drivers on it Insert disc and close any windows that pop up. Then right click on My Computer and go to device manager. Open that and right click on any yellow warning or exclamation marks. Click update driver. Click on install from list or specific location. Search removable media and it should find the specific driver needed if you do need any. This is how I do it on XP .. not sure what you have. If all seems good with bios flash you should be ok

No you did not harm the computer updateing the bios.
Now as to the others leave them alone. If you are running windows 7 then you will be offered any updates for your system under windows updates. Those are the ones then that you should do. Other than that unless you are having issues leave well enough alone.

I agree with Davet50. You didn't harm anything with the BIOS update. Dell wouldn't recommend it if it was harmful. If anything, you improved your computer. As for the drivers, leave them alone. If everything is working okay, you don't need to install drivers or update them. Dell's update manager installed with your computer will let you know if you need any updates from Dell. The Windows Update will probably update a couple of drivers for you. No problem. Relax.
