Ethernet Port not working

I would want to report a huge flaw in dell laptops. This is my second inspiron laptop and I'm having the same problem I had with the previous one; Ethernet port doesn't work. I've tried several solutions, read several people's report of this same flaw, if there's any solution at all to this malfunction please let us know.

Hi Obeng Darko,

I apologize for the inconvenience caused. Could you please elaborate about the issue? May I know the troubleshooting steps that have been performed? Was the Ethernet port replaced earlier?

To assist you further I would like to know the system model number and operating system installed on it.

My machine is Dell Inspiron 5520, Service Tag: <ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy> . I used it with my office network two days ago but is not working today. I have updated the network drivers in this case Realtek PCIe FE Family Contoller, I uninstalled it and downloaded new one from the DELL website, I've run system restore but to no avail.

I upgraded fro Windows 7 professional x64 to Windows 8 pro x64.

Thanks in advance, looking forward to your reply.

Hi Obeng Darko,

I would like you check in device manager if the Realtek PCIe card is detected, please follow the below mentioned steps:

  1. Click Start to display the start menu.
  2. Click Control Panel
  3. Click Device Manager
  4. Expand Network Adapters and check for NIC in the list

If the network card is not detected in device manager, please check in BIOS if integrated NIC is enabled or disabled:

  1. Start the computer and press F2 on the Dell splash screen to enter Setup.
  2. Go to Advanced Tab and select Integrated NIC.
  3. Press the Enter Key to get the options to enable it.
  4. Press F10 key to save changes and exit.

Restart the system after computer and try connecting to internet connection.

Kindly post the results.

Hi Obeng Darko,

I request you to private message me the service tag of the system, Please do not post the service tag in the public forum for security reasons. I was not able to pull up any records with the service tag provided earlier.

Also, I would like to know if the Ethernet controller card is detected in device manager, if it is detected, please private message me the IP Address of the computer, along with the service tag, registered owners name and address.

To check the IP Address, click Start, type ‘cmd’ in the search box, select ‘cmd’ and type ‘ipconfig’ in ‘cmd’ screen.

To private message, click my user name and click Start conversation.

Awaiting your response!

Thanks Nikhil for your reply but I've already done that, i failed to mention it in the previous mail, I disabled and enabled NIC in the bios but nothing happened. I wonder if everything fails I would have to change the board since it is on-board.

Hi Nikhil,

Could you please assist me in checking my Ethernet card? Same symptoms as those listed by Obeng Darko. Tell me what details you need and I will PM them to you. Thanks in advance!
