Error Message – What does this mean?

I was restarting my 8600 laptop and got a big blue window that said something to the effect of – Fatal Windows error and if this was the first time I saw it to restart and if not follow the direction. I restarted and I so far so good but can anyone tell me on this little bit of information what I got and should I worry about happening again.

Thanks
Kimberly

Windows can be fickle at times!

Whilst it is most likely that there really isn't a problem it may be prudent to run the Dell diagnostics to rule out any hardware fault.

If you press F12 at startup you should get a one off boot option. Use your up and down arrow keys to navigate to the diagnostics option then press entering on the keyboard.

Alternatively, if you received a Dell diagnostics and utility CD(not everyone did) when you've got your laptop then you can boot off of the CD and you will enter the diagnostics program.

You are welcome.

You must be one of the lucky ones as most owners of the 8600 didn't receive that CD.

I had all the extra put on this laptop offered and then some in mine so that might be why I got one.

Many times boot errors that generate a fatal error are caused by a driver problem.  I agree, you should run the diagnostics program.  You may also want to look in device manager and see if any of your hardware shows a yellow question mark.
