Does it seriously take 3 weeks to ship XPS Laptop???

Has anyone else here experienced this extremely long delay in receiving a new XPS notebook? Is this normal? With an estimated May 28th shipping date which seems a rather long time (atleast in comparison to other customer notebooks I have ordered.)

Have to jump in on this one. Curious what others were experiencing and if it was similar to my own. I originally ordered on 4/22 with an ESD of 5/5. On 5/5 received an email with an updated ESD of 5/12. On 5/12 received an email with an updated ESD of 5/19. On 5/19 received an email with an ESD of 5/27. When does one say enough is enough? The frustrating part for me is I got a fantastic deal on an XPS M1530 (during their 40% off sale) which (while shopping around in the meantime) I haven't been able to come close to duplicating (with any brand, although I was focused on HP). I agree with one person's comments that this isn't the Dell "of old" when things shipped before the ESD more often than not. Ah well, at least I'm not alone...

Wow...That is scary.  I am in the EXACT same boat you are.  I ordered the same model, on the same date, with the same estimated ship dates and the same delay notices.  I've called numerous times and have gotten hardly any information out of Dell.  They won't even upgrade me to overnight shipping due to the long delay.  I am so frustrated the last few times I've called Dell I've just hung up on them because I could barely understand the reps english and they weren't helping me at all.  I did find out that mine is in the 'boxing' stage for the past couple of days, so we'll see if it ships sometime soon.  I'm going to be going out of town for a couple of weeks on Friday and really hoping to get it by then...not holding my breath.  I am fully expecting to get another delay email on 5/27.

Just got a phone call from "Dell Canada" regarding the delayed order.  The rep told me that the reason for the delay was due to the HD and graphics card in my laptop not passing their QA tests and his wanting confirmation from me to continue with the order.  Hmmm, 4 weeks past the order date and this is the reason?  I explained to him how I'm caught between a rock and a hard place because i got such a great price on this laptop, but at the same time it's not doing me any good if it's delayed (3x's!!).  I asked him if Dell was doing anything to compensate (patient, faithful) customers who have endured these delays without cancelling and going to HP, Toshiba, etc. and he simply said "no".  Great.  Don't know why I didn't even put up a fight.  I'm usually the one to stay on the line until I get someone who can rectify the situation appropriately.  For some reason I just didn't have the energy this time.  I'll probably follow up with a phone call within another day or two.  Would be nice if they offered upgraded warranty coverage or SOMETHING.  And to think I was originally going to not buy Dell (I've been a Dell customer for decades) and try HP.  Looks like this will be my last Dell purchase...  :smileysad:   It's a shame since I've referred plenty of people to them.  No more...

*Update* The Dell rep called me again yesterday and told me my laptop (ordered May 5th) will be here today and it finally is.  Rep said he would call me back today to verify.  Don't mean to brag but there shouldn't be many excuses for these guys.  Only thing I can think of is maybe since I ordered it through our military website maybe some kind of priority is put on it but I HIGHLY doubt it.  Good luck everyone.

Well I finally got annoyed enough to contact them regarding the ridiculously long ship date.  The guy said that he has prioritized (whatever that means) my order and upgraded me to next day shipping for free.  Now hopefully I will get this thing soon.  It was a graduation gift, but I graduated over a week ago.

you don't happen to know the name of the rep you talked to, do you?  I've tried numerous times to get upgraded to next day shipping and they insist that they cannot do it for me.  What service number did you call?  Everytime I call I know I get somebody in India...I would like to talk to someone in the states.

Well, actually I emailed them.  I just went to the dell support email and the order status email.  It took the guy and entire day to reply, but he seemed to be nice enough.  I would suggest emailing them.  I actually didn't even ask if I could get upgraded shipping, he just did it for me.

Dude, Congrats: I never got that far with anyone not in this country or India or Pakistan or Istanbul or wherever the folks I was talking to were from. It certainly was not Kentucky OK!

I ordered my 1530 on 4/30 and the estimated ship date is 5/30, I have emailed customer service 3 different times and got the same answer that the ship date is only an estimate and it may ship sooner.  I even asked for my order to priortized and shipping upgraded only to be told that no changes can be made to the order.  I did call the automated line yesterday and once today and it is in the boxing stage so hopefully it will ship soon.  4 weeks seems a little crazy to get it built and shipped.

Well, I can (finally) say it's shipped!!! :smileyvery-happy:   I received an email today that it shipped yesterday (huh?).  Can't figure out why the emails telling me it's been delayed occured like clockwork on each new respective ESD, but the email to tell me my laptop has shipped gets sent the day after it ships?  It's supposed to arrive tomorrow.  Keeping fingers crossed.  Hope more people get good news soon.  Originally ordered 4/22.  Delayed three times.  Can't even say better late than never.  Sure miss the Dell of old!!!

Mine is still in the boxing stage 2 days later and I haven't been able to find a customer rep that will upgrade my shipping for me.  All they say is that they cannot make any changes ot the order after it has been placed. Which I know is not true but they refuse to make the change for me

I feel your pain, mwenn1.  I called and emailed multiple times and they used the same excuse on me as the reason they could not upgrade my shipping.  Mine was in the boxing stage for 3 days before it was actually shipped.  Apparently the boxing stage includes shipping it from Malaysia where it was assembled to a Dell facility in the States.  After a month of waiting, my order shipped on 5/21 I have been told by DHL that my computer will be delivered tomorrow 5/23.  I sure hope it gets here then cause I'll be going out of town for a couple of weeks tomorrow night.  Hang in there...you'll get it eventually.

I just emailed then again and asked them politely that if they cannot make the changes to escalate the email to a supervisior or someone who can make them.  We will see what happens.
