Dell Inspiron 9300 Motherboard HDD Compatibility
Hello, I obtained a Dell Inspiron 9300 secondhand, and wanted to fix it. It had a bad motherboard (everything else was intact) so I bought a new one. Works fine. However, originally, the computer had a 100gb sata drive in it, which works, that i wanted to use. However, the computer wouldnt recognize the drive (which i figured out was becuse the new motherboard had a funky connector port on it. After research, i found that the adapter i neede only works with pata drives. The old mboard DID have a sata interface, i checked. Is there anywhere i can get a sata hdd conector adapter for the new mboard? Thanks!!

Most 9300s shipped with EIDE/PATA drives. These use a long blade adapter that fits over the pins of a PATA drive.
Very few of the late model 9300 (called the -S model) had SATA drives.
It sounds like you installed a PATA mainboard - which means you'll need to use a parallel ATA drive. There is no way to install a PATA drive in a 9300S system, and no way to install a SATA drive in a 9300 system.
If you want to use a SATA drive, you need the mainboard on top in the link below.

Thank You! I will have to stick with a pata drive, I guess. Such a shame the SATA motherboard went bad- they seem very rare!
