What about the indicators light such as the power button or the power indicator, the charging indicator, etc...

The screen backlight should come on with the display.
If you're looking for a keyboard backlight, though - this model doesn't have one.

That should be on the front edge of the system over to the extreme right.

Actually, if you read the Inspiron 15 3000 Series Quick Stard Guide, you will see the F10: Toggle keyboard backlight is optional. If the F10 key has the shining label, like the F2 and F3 with volume label, your system has the keyboard backlight.

This is a replacement keyboard which has backlit. just install it and plug it in and should work fine. 3542 can support it
