D610 does not boot, keeps returning to F12 Safe mode options page
My D610, XP, sp3, has malfunctioned. Will initially start to power up, with the screen with blue Dell letters, then goes to a back screen with the safe mode options.
REgardless of what I choose, safe mode, last good config, etc. it keeps returning to the same page.
Doing the F8 during boot, brings the black screen with additional options. But again, it doesn't matter which option I pick (safemode, debuggins, etc), it always tries to reboot and then returns the the F12 safe mode options screen.
Doing the F2 setup during booting, brings the setup screen. I do not have the system password and so I can't change anything here. In the boot sequence all I have is a 1. besides the HDD. The CD drive does not have a sequence nmber assigned.
So I have not been able to attempt to boot from XP disc.
I'm stuck and need some files off of this drive. Please help. Thx.

Press F12 at powerup and boot to the Dell diagnostics. Run an extended hard drive test - you will likely find a faulty hard drive.

The laptop will not successful boot beyond the F12 page. So I cannot do a extended hard drive test. I can pick any of the selections on the F12 or F8 screens, like safe mode, or diagnostics, etc. and the machine tries to reboot, flashes the blue Dell screen and then goes right back to the F12 page/screen.
Cannot escape this. I can do F8 while it's trying to reboot and get to those additional options. Or I can do an F2 and get to setup options. But regardless of what choices I select, upon attempting to reboot, the system reverts back to the F12 page. I cannot get to the desktop.
Any more suggestions? Thx.

yes, F2 (BIOS) appears to see the HD.
All the various parts of the setup page are there, with the info reported. But I do not have system password and cannot fix the boot sequence (which only has the HD in teh sequence)

Does the BIOS (F2) see the hard drive at all?
It sounds like the drive is toast.

You're going to need the password - call Dell, pay for a support call and prove ownership -- they will assist you. You'll likely also need a new hard drive (the Dx10 systems were the last to use the old EIDE/parallel ATA drive -- they do not take SATA drives).
