Cursor Icon Disappears While Typing

We are on our second Inspiron 8600 within a month. We returned the first one as tech support thought it was a wiring problem. The new one we received has the exact same problem. Tech support has been unable to figure it out after a number of calls.  We sent the first one back because they though it may be faulty wiring in the palm pad. It happens no matter what mouse we are using. We've reloaded all the drivers, etc, etc.

The problem is:     While typing the cursor will, for no reason, disappear from the page. We then need to place it again with the mouse to keep typing. This happens frequently and needless to say is very annoying as we use this computer for business as well as personal purposes. It has happened so much that in an effort to retain a sense of humor we have started calling it "boinking" as the audio gives out a boink sound when it happens.

How likely is it that two new Dell's would both have a wiring problem from the factory?  I suspect it is some kind of conflict or something else in the system.

Anyone have similar problems?  Anyone figured out what it is?

Mouse properties, select "Hide pointer while typing" uncheck the box..  See if that helps.

Tried that. No luck. One tech told me with the first one that it sounded like a palm rest problem. We have tried every configuration possible it seems. Just did it again. No rhyme or reason or specific action triggers it. I have been looking at the possibility that it is my display driver. Who knows at this point I am resigned. I have a phone (did it again) appointment today with a "senior" tech maybe he/she can help. Thanks.  Sahallie

We were using Norton Systemworks. Try removing that. Use the utilities from the norton disk rather than loading onto the computer. sahallie

Thanks for the reply! The norton internet security did come with the lap top already. I personally use Mcafee on my desktop pc. and have a disk for that one. I don't have one for the norton though. So maybe the best thing to do is delete the norton program off and install mcafee and use that one? I hope that will take care of it, this can be so annoying.

Thanks again,
