Close laptop lid was locking, now it isn't
Just got my Dell laptop Inspiron N4010 back from warranty repair (motherboard replaced). Before I sent it to them it would lock the desktop when I closed the lid. Now it doesn't. How do I make it lock the desktop again when I close the lid? No, I don't want it to sleep or hibernate. No, I don't want to hit windows key/L. I just want to close the lid and have it immediately lock and ask for a password when I open it. Yes, the "On resume, ask for password" button is checked. It was doing it before. Why won't it do it now?

You mentioned everything that you don't want but you didn't even say what you have checked or what operating system you are using.
Did you check to see if the technician turned that feature off? That would be the first thing to check.
This is how to check for it in Windows 7 Pro
Click Start > Control Panel > Power Options > Change Plan Settings > Change Advanced power settings
Look for Require a password on wakeup and make sure that it is set to require a password.

Here's another take on that.

The dummies.com article explains how to make it sleep or hibernate when lid is closed. As stated, I don't want to do that. I want it to require a password when I open the lid. Not sure what the technician changed, but it was doing it before I had the work done and now it isn't. And, please, nobody suggest I call Dell customer support. I'd rather chew glass.

Yes, I'm on Windows 7.
And yes, it is set to "require a password on wake-up".

Yes, thank you for the attempted solution. Sorry if I didn't completely supply all current settings. As with most humans I am capable of incomplete communication. I can tell by the tone of your submissions that you feel like I'm wasting your time and that you have more important things to worry about. So, please feel free to stop responding to this thread. I'm sure somebody more patient will come along to help me.

You didn't look at the picture - it was relevant for what you asked. It had a selection there to require password.
If you had posted that it was already set for password, then the answer would have been different. Can't read your mind.
