Can't Install Dell Support Centre

Hi all,

I've just purchased a new Vostro 3750 laptop, and made the mistake of uninstalling Dell Support Centre, along with all of the other software bundled with the laptop.

I now realise that I probably need Dell Support Centre, as it seems to be the only reliable method of finding driver updates etc. for my laptop.

After a bit googling I went to the following page http://www.dell.com/content/topics/global.aspx/services/en/dsc_home?c=us&l=en and downloaded "aulauncher.exe" - which I believe is the Dell Support Centre installation file. When I run the .exe it firsts says "Searching for updates" then after a few seconds it just says "Software not installed", with no error messages.

I've followed the instructions given at the bottom of this post: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/p/19387854/19900413.aspx but unfortunately the installation still fails.

Please advise.

Thanks.

TeckToNick,

The instructions in the article Uninstall Dell Support Center explains how to remove it. Then there is also a link to download and reinstall.

Hi PudgyOne,

 Thanks for the welcome!

Should I try uninstalling the current (failed) installation via the instructions in the link you posted, then try re-installing?

Thanks.

TeckToNick,

Yes, try the instructions in the link I provided. They were written with the help of the makers of the Dell Support Center.

TeckToNick,

I just reread your thread.

When you installed the operating system, did you install the drivers in the correct order? How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order

Notebook system utility and the chipset drivers need installed first, or the rest of the drivers will fail to install.

No, I was not aware that I needed to install said drivers in a particular order :emotion-6:

Oh dear, this seems to be getting more and more confusing! (my fault!)

Is there a way of restoring the laptop factory settings without the recovery partition? Are there factory recovery disks (not just OS recovery disks) available to purchase/download anywhere? Or will I have to send the laptop back to Dell for this?

Thanks.

Arghhh, I didn't create the disks before wiping the partition and installing fresh OS. What an IDIOT! I hope I haven't ruined a perfectly good laptop :emotion-9:

Regarding the disks that can be requested from Dell, will they allow me to fully restore the laptop to the exact condition it left the factory, including all software, drivers utilities etc. or will they just allow me to reinstall the OS?

Thanks for your help so far, Rick. I really appreciate it.

P.s I'm in the UK.

TeckToNick,

If you made the Windows 7 - IMPORTANT Windows 7 Backup Disks to create you can Restoring Your Dell Computer to Original Factory Installation with Dell DataSafe Local Backup 2.0

Easiest method is Restoring Your Computer´s Software to the Factory Settings

If in the United States, you can Request Backup Disks USA If in another Country, contact Dell Tech Support in your Country.

In other words, are the disks a full copy of the factory configured recovery partition, or are they essentially just standard Windows 7 Home Premium installation disks?

Thanks!
