Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus
I recenlty received a Latitude E6400. It came with Vista which our company hasn't rolled out yet. So I wiped it out and loaded XPsp2. After installing all Dell drivers (website & cd's) I still have a conflict that says "Audio device on high definition audio bus". The sound works fine. All hardware appears to be functioning normally, but as a tech I cannot stand to see the exclamation point in device manager. I even flashed the bios and installed XP service pack 3. I finally got frustrated and blew away the load to try again. Guess what...same results. I have been going through this for 2 days now...and suggestions?

Hi there,
I have exactly the same problem on E6400, E4200 and E4300.
The weirdest thing is that everything is working perfectly on these machines...
I would say that as everything is working it is not a big issue but anyway, I don't like to give a PC to a user if it's not perfect...
If anyone gets more info on this, please keep me posted...
Thanks,

OK Guys, I found the solution.
The missing driver is the HDMI port driver which is located in the HDMI folder of your diplay driver folder.
Once installed, everything is fine.
Have Fun,
ArthurOfCamalot.

Would this work on Vista 64-bit? I'm the same problem on my XPS M1530 after going to 64-bit Vista. I have sound but it is the windows drivers and when I try to install the drivers or the drivers suite from the Dell website or sigmatel is say that the device is not present. Anyone have a fix?
Thanks,
Marcos

Where is "your display driver folder"? I extracted my driver to the default c:\dell\drivers\R190031 but there is no folder within called "HDMI". Am I looking in the wrong place?
Thanks,
Rob

The full path is C:\dell\drivers\R199173\HDMI - just update the driver using the IntcHdmi.inf located there.

Welcome to the forums y'all :emotion-21:
Be sure to have an up-to-date backup, or... at the very least... create a new System Restore point first :emotion-55:
But I wonder if installing the Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio would have any affect?
You can read info on it here and here.

Ok thanks for all the above info but I thought I would add a little. For my Latitude E6400 the driver is called "VIDEO_DRVR_WIN_R199173.EXE".
1) Goto a DOS prompt (start -> run -> cmd)
2) find where you saved the file named "VIDEO_DRVR_WIN_R199173.EXE"
3) type the following "VIDEO_DRVR_WIN_R199173 /e=c:\dell\drivers\r199173 /s"
4) now you will find that pesky driver for "Audio device on high definition audio bus" under c:\dell\drivers\r199173\ payload\HDMI"

Hi all,
I would like to know which exactly driver will need to be install to Dell Latitude E6400 ATG
MISSING DRIVER:
Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus
ID:
HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8086&DEV_2802&SUBSYS_80860101&REV_1000\4&380800DF&0&0201
upgradable to: 5.10.00.1047
I am not sure if dell\drivers\R199173\HDMI will be working if I am using newer videodriver. Thank you for your reply.

Hi all,
I have the same symptome. Only, I have no sound whatsoever. I have a Dimension 5150 desktop, and tried about all the standard stuff now: I've tried the µsoft link in this thread, didn't work. Searched for standard drivers on dell.com, couldn't find any. Update driver automatic, failed. Reinstall driver, failed. Search on recomended places on the HD, couln't find any. ...
Since Dell forces people to use IE for support (and I refuse to do so), I'll try it this way. Anybody any idea ? All help highly appreciated.
THX !
