Accidental Damage Policy

I asked this question in another forum, but I'm interested in more thoughts.  Have any of you with the accidental damage policy thought about kicking your lap top down a few flights of stairs toward the end of the coverage period?  It would seem like an accidental fall would be hard to tell apart from an intentional one... no?

Thoughts?  My rig is fairly new and I wouldn't actually do this, but curiosity has the best of me and I wonder if anyone has considered it!!

I'm sure people have done it. Its insurance fraud, and makes the rates go up for the rest of us, but oh well.

But yes, an accident would be difficult distinguish from a intentional action.

I guess I am more concerned that something bad WOULD happen to my computer and the Dell will try to tell me it was intentional when it was really an accident and not cover it!!  Luckily, I'm not too clumsy (knock on wood!!)

well i legitimately spilled water on mine (1year old, coverage lasts for 3) and managed to kill the keyboard (hard to miss it), the touchpad (i assume its connected), the mainboard (nice $500 there), the video card (just bad luck on the side of the spill i suppose), and the heatsink/fan assembly (although they may have just replaced that for dust).  I got a new case as well.

Just keep in mind should you do anything bad, the parts you're getting will be refurbs and your warranty will be almost up.  If my system is running solid after 3years I would never think of doing that.

Oh, well that answers another question I had... about refurbished parts.  So, if I drop my notebook next month and have to get some parts replaced, I'm not really getting new gear.  They don't tell you that!!!

I bought an expensive policy that will basically turn my new laptop into a junkyard of refurb parts if something accidentally happens.  That's disappointing.  Maybe I shouldn't have bothered with this insurance policy, it was kinda a knee jerk purchase.

Thanks for the help guys.

I forget the exact reason, but all Dell spare parts are marked refurbished, even if they are new.  It's a "tax thing" or something like that.  Besides that, if you read the "fine print" on most any service contract, it will usually say they can use refurbished parts.  Not much different than car insurance, the company gets to determine what kind of parts are used.
