64MB DDR ATi M7 Mobility Radeon 7500

64MB DDR ATi M7 Mobility Radeon 7500

Anything you guys out there can give me on this "64MB DDR ATi M7 Mobility Radeon 7500"?

I just bought myself a new Dell;

Inspiron 5100, Intel® Pentium® 4 prosessor - 2,4GHz, 14.1" TFT XGA (1024x768), 256MB DDR RAM/266MHz (1x256MB), 64MB DDR ATi M7 Mobility Radeon 7500.

How would this work for me in Half-Life for exampel? With FPS?

What's with the big font?

Ideally the Mobility 9000 64MB would be a better choice, but the 7500 isn't bad. The 9xxx chipsets are DirectX 9 capable, which is what the latest games (HL2, Halo, etc) support.

The upcoming Mobility 9600 chipsets look to be even better.

With Inspiron 5100 I couldn't choose the Mobility 9000 64MB, so I had no other choice then that, hehe.

Hm, is it possible to buy it later to 5100? Or something!? ..

I use the 7500 with drivers from www.omegacorner,com recommended by TheGSRGuy. With my current configuratio I own people playing Day of Defeat on the Half-life engine:

To play games I use system mechanic to tweak my startup files(you know, regedit startup list). I have a startup profile that I use for everyday computing (it loads virus program, firewall, and other apps that run in the background). This usually leaves about 22 proccesses running in task mgr. The other startup file I use for gaming and only starts up 1 app (I8kfanGUI.exe), but leaves only 17 proccesses running in the background. You can also clean up shortcuts and fix registry files and junk files with SM. Stay away from the find duplicate file app, I don't trust it. I use Norton WinDocter to find other problems. I also use XP Pro, FAT32 file system and Omega drivers www.omegacorner.com. With the Omega drivers, I am able to play Battlefield 1942 and UT2003 at their highest graphics setting. Oh yeah, I Defrag with windows util when needed. I also run at 1600 X 1200 120mhz. Lastly, I customized "Visual Effects" and checked the last three boxes(common tasks, drop shadows, visual styles).

Of course, people own me a lot, too.

Short answer: No, you're stuck with that card.

Long answer: Technically you can't upgrade the video card, but it should in theory be possible.

The 9000, 9100, and 9200 all use DX 8.1, but nice try    9500 up all use DX 9...

My 9000m on the laptop on my sig cant even play BF 1942 1600x1200x32 full details (I can get about 40 fps in 1024x768) I mean I tried 1600x1200x32 and I got about 12 fps.  Thats unplayable (except on my desktop, 60 fps...)

I use Omega along with all sorts of system tweaks also...

Well, I guess that's bad news for me, melee. I'm getting my ati 9000 tomorrow and was expecting it to run better on my i8100 1.13ghz than the 7500. I have issues with Battlefield 1942 with my 7500. I need to keep all settings in "Display Properties" "Advance settings" at default level or my game will do some wierd stuff. For instance, If I changed anything in OpenGL my game's graphics would become unviewable. The only way to fix it was to download Dell's drivers and reinstall them. That was with my old Dell drivers, though. I haven't tried changing anything yet with Omega's drivers.

By the way. I checked out my frame rates in Battlefield 1942. With graphic detail set at its highest running at 1600X1200, I was averaging about 23 to 24 fps. With graphics still set at high and running at 1024X768, I was averaging around 34 to 40 FPS with spikes up to 78 when I went to a higher elevation in the map, like a mountain top. Oh yeah, I tested it out on the new Phillipines map that recently came out. In UT2003 at full settings, I was averaging 24 FPS and it was still steadily going up when I left.

melee, you have only 384mb installed. Maybe that's why FPS is only 12 in 1600X1200X32. Battlefield maps are huge and the view distances are pretty far, which (I think, but I'm not sure), hogs your memory resources.

Err.. I didn't adress why you started this thread to begin with. Here is my take on the card. I have loved it. Had very few issues and i get decent performance. I have run Unreal tournement in 1600x1200 with no problem, and still run pretty much any game on it. The card is a DX7 card so you have to do with out VS. Basically 2 years ago the card was the absolute bomb, couldn't be beat. But now there are cards with much better 3d support for dx8.1 and dx9. I believe that the best cards for the 8200 were either the Geforce 4 440, or the radeon 9000. I do believe that the radeon has a slight performance edge over the geforce cards until the 460 came out. So that means the 9000 would be your best card to upgrade to if you want to. Well in short the radeon 7500 can run almost any game, but if you want the best support get a radeon 9000. Since you have a 8200 you won't have any issues getting the card and it will have drivers from dell. Also since you have a P4 you will get a bigger increase then i would with a 1ghz p3. It will probably give you a jump into the 7k range maybe more in 3dmark2001, and it will be able to run 3dmark 2003 with a score around 1k.

Well i haven't played BF1942 but there isn't a doubt that the radeon 7500 is the sweet spot for the I8100. I generally get about 3750 3dmarks in 2001 on it which isn't bad. I have done some research and kinda expect that the 9000 would only improve my scores by just over 1k. The biggest advantage of the 9000 will be the dx8.1 support. Not haveing that support is what drives me nuts on my 8100. There are allot of games that take good advantage now of PS and VS, and allot more coming out that require it. I would say upgrade that card if you want that support and want to get another 6 months or so out of your laptop before needing a new one. Really the only disadvantage of the 9000 is that since dell doesn't really support this upgrade to a 8100 you are at the mercy of custom made drivers.

Shoey. didn't want to rain on your parade but I was afraid Dell would do that. Try ordering the m9 without giving your express service code.
