Headset mic doesn’t work
I have a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 Gaming Laptop that I bought this January so it is relatively new. Recently, I bought a new gaming headset but when I plug it into the laptop, it doesn’t recognize that I have plugged in a headset (when I go to “manage audio devices” it doesn’t say that there are any other devices). I can hear through the headset perfectly fine but when I try to use the mic, it automatically defaults to the laptop’s mic. I’ve tried using this headset on my phone and it works perfectly fine so it’s not the headset’s problem. Please help!!

Download Waves MaxxAudio Pro for Dell from Microsoft Store.
Click on the playback icon (head facing left). Select output device to Headset, not Headphone. Boom!
Still not resolved? Use the "Get Help Now" option at the bottom right to chat with a Dell technician right away.

When you plug a device into the Audio port of a new Dell with a combined audio port, you should get a popup to confirm what you plugged in. If you do, select Headset instead of Headphone so the Mic will work.
If you are not getting the popup, try opening the Waves MaxxAudio from the hidden icons or from the Apps listing on the Start Menu.

It says there are three replies but I cannot see them.
Is there any news on this issue?
I tried to download a driver for the audio system and it said it was not available in Windows 11.
Any help would be appreciated.

If the microphone on your headset is not working as expected, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot and resolve the problem:
Check Hardware Connections:
Test the Headset on Another Device:
Check Microphone Privacy Settings:
Update Audio Drivers:
Set Headset as Default Recording Device:
Adjust Microphone Levels:
Check Headset Microphone Mute Switch:
Run Troubleshooters:
Test with Another Microphone:
Check Background Applications:
Virus or Malware Scan:
Contact Support:
Remember that microphone issues can sometimes be a combination of hardware and software factors. Start with the basic troubleshooting steps and gradually move towards more advanced solutions if needed.
