I have a Dell Inspiron 5593 with 1TB hdd and a 128 ssd. I need to know whether my storage is expandable and if yes then what can I expand it to I mean like ssd or hdd

You can either remove the hard drive and install a 2.5" SATA SSD, or upgrade the M.2 drive to a larger capacity model -- your choice.

So does it mean that the hdd is in the empty slot that must be vacant and can I remove the hdd and add an ssd

You'll have to replace one or both devices -- you can't add to what you already have.
