Dell G3 RAM upgrade - Warranty status
I want to add additional 8 GB RAM to my Dell G3 (15), will it have any effect on my existing warranty status??
Will my existing warranty be void, if I add the RAM myself?
NOTE: I recently purchased this laptop. It's been only about a month. I have premium support for 2 years.
According to the manuals, my dell G3 has one extra DDR4 SODIMM slot - where I can add the the additional RAM.
So all I have to do is open the base and slide in the memory module.

You will not affect the warranty by adding additional RAM.
And follow the service manual procedure. Open the base and insert the RAM module.Just make sure to add the exact type that you have now (DDR4 2666).

You sure you have 1x8Gb? Most builds I saw have the 2x4Gb, including the one I purchased. The upgrade is less appealing if you have to buy 2x8's.
If you haven't already you're much better off with spending $125 on an EVO 970 nvme. Much better.

Hi.. Can you tell me; While checking for new RAM to buy, should i look for speed 2666 or 2400Mhz. I mean to say which one of these can raise compatibility issues?
If i get greater than 2400Mhz, will that work?
If i get faster than 2666, will that work?

Justesce,
Below are the memory specs for your computer. You can also click on the system link below and download the online manual for information on installing the memory in your computer. Adding memory will not void your warranty. Dell will not troubleshoot the memory you add unless it is purchased from Dell.
Memory
Two SODIMM slots
Dual-channel DDR4
2666MHz
4 GB, 8 GB, and 16 GB
4 GB, 8 GB, 12 GB, 16 GB, and 32 GB

If the answer whether the RAM will work or not, the answer is probably YES. Modern laptop BIOS is smart enough to overcome some differences between RAM module, as long as you equip similar type of RAM (DDR4 with DDR4 not DDR4 with DDR3).
But to make the most of your RAM, you should ensure that the RAM you use can run in dual-channel mode. The easiest way to do this is to buy RAM sticks in kit form (2x8 GB / 2x4 GB / 2x16 GB). Understandably this won't be the cheapest option.
Should you want to try your luck in adding more RAM without buying them in pair, you should ensure that the RAM you buy is as similar as possible to the one your laptop is equipped with (same speed, same voltage, same timing, etc), but even then there's no guarantee that they will work in dual channel mode. Apps like HWinfo is particularly helpful for knowing your current RAM detailed specification.

According to my research online (ebay result), it's a brand called Micron. (I saw a picture online with the Crucial brand with the same model number)

Hi
I'm having the same questions than you. Were you able to upgrade your RAM? Which memory card did you end up buying?
