Unable to connect to ethernet: Error 797

Hi All,

I am very new here so sorry if this question has asked before.

I have Dell Insipiron 15 R N5010 laptop and I cant connect to cable internet.

I was getting error 651 which I fixed after changing my raspppoe.sys file but after that I am getting error 797.

Error 797: The connection failed because the modem or other connecting device failed. Please make sure that the modem or other connecting device is installed.

I tried checking the Modem under Network Adaptors and found there is a yellow mark next to "WAN miniport pppoe"

I tried updating the drivers but its not accepting and gave me error:

"Windows has found the drivers for your device but unable to update, could not found the specified file"

I have tried udisabling and re-enabling wan miniport but no luck....Tried un-installing it and check all other settings in Internet options but no luck.

Please help and let me know how to restore it to factory settings if that is my last resort ??

Hey Nikhil

I tried that steps but no luck.

My issue is that I do not have WAN miniport PPPOE listed under Network Adaptors because when I was getting error 651, I tried un-installing and now it wont come back even if I try Scan New Hardware and I keep getting error 797.

I have tried to restore my laptop to previous date in March which has now taken me back to first error i.e. 651, but WAN miniport PPPOE is still not listed.

I have already spent a lot of my time onto it so I am fed up with this error now :(

I have backed up all my data so that can do a factory restore but more bad luck as it wont re-image now and giving me error "winlog.exe" not found and asking for installation disk.

Please help me how can I factory restore and where to get Installation disk from as didnt come in the package when I bought but my windows are genuine and authentic.

I can understand electronic devices can create confusion when they do not work the way they are designed for.

The issue in the computer is because of corrupted files in the windows operating system.

The above link is for the US region. Please let me know if there is any difficulty in requesting the disk.

There is particular order in which the drivers need to be installed after the operating system is installed. Here is the link for your reference, http://dell.to/X1IKGu
